Colin McRae rally series.
Discussion
For a while now, I have been trying to think why number 2 was the best in the series.
It got it down to two reasons:
1) Handling - Number two (compared to 3 and 4) you get a much greater sense of being 'on the limit'.. something that is sadly lacking from 3 or 4.
But the main reason is:
2) Stages - Or rather lack of them.. .number two has 10 stages per country, and more countries.. Italy for instance.. THE best... roads just wide enough for your car etc. On CM4 even the tighest roads you can fit two cars side by side down.
Progress? Nah I dont think so.

ive got to agree with you on that one pwig, colin 2 was a far better game than whats come along since.
i still like pummeling round in the audi quattro with the 'double-click' turbo acceleration and the big flames coming out the exhaust!....the mk2 rs2000 is fun too...especially when trying to drive in the snow!!

i find dabbing the brakes as you point the front into the corner and then blipping the throttle as you go round the corner and applying full throttle as you exit the corner works for me.
(setting the brakes with more front bias and setting the car with slightly more r.w power helps to swing the arse end into position and helps your pull out of the corners too)
