The enevitable has happened after 2 and a half years. The problem is I've lost the picture, I can still hear the menu when moveing the controller. But I just get a blank screen?! Tried both normal TV and HD on both my TV and the down stairs one still nothing. So is there a fault that can be easily replaced or do I need a completely new Xbox?

I had a similar problem with mine, except no sound either....however I tried another AV lead and it was fine.

^ Same happened to me about 2 months ago, but changing the cable didn't make any difference. Searching around it looks like it may be a FUBAR'd motherboard which can be replaced, but I haven't looked into getting it sorted yet.

Cheers for the replys guys. Will it have wiped my memory thing or anything like that? My mate said I can have his spare Xbox and stick my memory unit in that.

This has happened to mine two weeks ago. No picture at all.

Tried different cables (HDMI / VGA / Composite) still the same.
The TV Recognises that the xbox is turned on through the HDMI but no picture. Tried to force 3RLOD by wrapping the xbox in a thick towel. and it actually started to work whilst it was still to hot!

as the console was just over two years old had to pay MS for a repair. So £81.60 later it is currently in Germany at the MS repair centre.

If you lose the picture but still have sound, this is down to the graphics card losing contact with the motherboard (same issue as RRoD) - If your xbox is in warranty send it back. If it is out of warranty I can fix this for you, drop me a PM.

Before wrapping it in a towel or whatever else, just get your mates Xbox, plug it in using your cables and see if it works ok. You will be a bit sick if you start trying to do all the fixes only to find out it was a cable issue.

Make sure they are all seated properly as well, check the switch is in the right place if using component. If you use component, and have an hdmi slot as well, try both. Hey, it may even be the T.V ?

Just swap test everything

Do you get any quadrants lit up in red on the Xbox ? If not, it may point to something more simple than a complete hardware failure

Whatever is stored on your memory card should be fine

It's out of warrenty No red lights still get a green one if I connect a controller, I've tried it on other T.V.s and using other cable. My mates got a duff one in warrenty and I can have that for a £10, but if that goes to pot I will indeed probably PM you.

George - for a £10 I'd get the duff one and get it sent off. It's a relatively painless process and it'll be abck with you within 2 weeks, all with a month's free Gold membership thrown in...
