I did a search and nothing came up so thought you PC guys might be interested in this up coming title APB

Its basically a MMO version of Cops and Robbers which on the surface sounds like its been done many times before, but looking deeper into this game reveals features that makes this game very unique

Also there currently looking for beta testers, I signed up a couple of weeks ago.

I don't do much PC gaming, as I prefer a controller for my gaming, but this is one game I am willing to make an exception for


What do you guys think?

I heard about this around 5 years ago, was excited then.... not so anymore...taken way too long.

wasn't aware it had been that long, been looking through some game play footage and watching there recent podcast videos as well and looks like there pretty much done the game now, just polishing up, so it would seem

I'm just not convinced by MMO's as a whole.

Warcraft was my first real "foray", although I did dabble in UltimaOnline back when I had dial-up. However, I only really enjoyed it (and played it) as I had a bunch of mates who did also. For the geeks, 5-man Blackrock Depths (when instances were actually difficult, in Vanilla-WoW) was freaking awesome, I will admit. Now its just watered down rubbish.

I also enjoyed EVE for its deep, unforgiving nature, but never subbed as none of my other mates like it.

But they're all the same these days. Repetative quests, grinding, "l33t kiddies" and usually filled with annoying people. Someone needs to shake up the genre, but as companies just want to make something that appeals to the broadest audience - which in WoW's case, it easy levelling and big shiny swords - I doubt this will change.

I'll be keeping an eye on Bioware's Star Wars MMO, as it's been handled by probably the greatest current games developer with one of the biggest licenses in the world. If anyone can pull it off, its Bioware. Although part of me wishes they'd ditch it and work on MassEffect3, which I'd sacrifice a limb for if it meant I was getting it this year.

I first heard about this game at least 2 or 3 years ago. I sort of gave up on the idea as it never materialised. Sounds like a good concept, looks a lot like gta 4 in the trailer. If they did it on Xbox/ PS3 it would be great. As things stand I don't think my laptop would cope.

Its going to be on consoles too. And the game studios that are making it is owned by the man who created gta, which is why it'll have similarities, like crackdown did. He left rockstar ages ago and started real time worlds.

I've always thought a GTA-style game would make a good MMO, think I'll definitely look into getting this.

Aww, I thought this was going to be a remake of the classic APB. Anyone else remember it? I used to spend about a quid every time we went to Blackpool playing it! Arcade games were 10p a go in those days.

Well, its out of beta now, releasing on 1st July (in UK), and is up for pre-order on Steam:

Feedback from the beta users seems mixed* (some glowing, some really not happy). Hands-on previews from various gamer sites seem very impressed. But the NDAs from the beta haven't been lifted yet (AFAIK?) so I guess more info will come soon.

I for one am very looking forward to it - and have preordered. Rather looking forwards to making a PHers crew, perhaps each with cars modelled after our RL rides...

• from what I can gather, beta criticisms fall in 3 areas:

1. graphics - although apparently beta graphics are set below the lowest setting for the retail/final version
2. repetitive missions - fair point, but (a) all MMOs have limited content at launch, and (b) its all about the PvP
3. laggy - but I think this comes from American users - and there was no US servers during beta (AFAIK)

I wasn't in the beta (booo) so there may be more to this, but how's the rest of the PH crowd feeling about this at the moment?

Edit: it was a little hard to find this thread in search because the full name "All Points Bulletin" wasn't mentioned in the thread. It is now...

Edit #2: not on consoles, PC only. There was going to be a 360 version but its PC only for now.

I was beta testing APB, i liked some aspects of it but hated more.

The driving is stupid, you simply cannot control a car properly. It makes GTA IV driving feel like gran turismo!

I gave up quite quickly tbh, as some of the missions are quite a distance away and what with not actually being able to drive there it took too long.

The graphics really are not as good as GTA IV nor is the game play.

For me, i uninstalled and certainly wont be installing again. EVEN if it was free.

Came across a few videos on YouTube last night and it looked not too bad. Just looking to see if its worth throwing a few quid at?

Yeah I just saw that the servers have been closed. Oh well, couldn't have been that good.
