GTA Vice City - The Driver mission

Havent played this for a while but picked it up again the other weekend, passed a few more missions but im stuck.

The Driver is one of the Malibu Club missions where you have to race and beat a guy before he will be your getaway driver. I can probably keep up with the other car and beat him with a bit of practice but the problem is lasting the race, my car is getting pounded by the police to the point that it is on fire by about three quarters the way round the track.

Im not after cheats, I have completed 58% of the game without cheating, im asking for any hints or tips.

If he beats me next time im waiting until the race is over then shoot him and his car with the minigun, if that does not make me feel better then im going indulge in a little "Murder On The Dancefloor" by lobing a couple of genades into the nightclub

Find another car/bike (PCJ600, or the Hotring Racer you can unlock at Vice City Autos) and park it near the start. Then when the race starts, get in the other car, and you'll beat him easily

Failing that try and punt him into a dead end!

Or.. park a fire truck across the road before you accept the mission.

I have tried that, I find I cant stay on the PCJ600 as the police just ram it head on. I find that by the time I chage over cars Hillery is long gone

Ill have to try the dead end suggestion

I have parked lots of different vehicles in the road and its a good idea as it slows Hillery down but you also

IIRC you can't shoot him or else you fail the mission

I think I used the uzi out of the side window to blow up his tyres and rammed him off the road a few times to win

The only way I beat it was to ram him off the road first. then you can take your time. throw as many shots as you can at him then nudge him into lamposts and walls, eventually he blows up and you can finish.
its one of the hardest to beat in the game..

except that darn last mission at vercettis!! I still havent got to the helicopter pad alive..

i myself am kina stuck in the game, i have no more missions available. ive boughten almost every property and completed them. i need something to do.

and the racing mission was fairly easy IIRC. just crash him at the start and keep it steady.

That's right. Just bounce him off the bridge or summat

I have done it. I cant believe it got home tonight and first go finished the race in first place. I tagged the back of Hillary's car and he hit a cop car I just kept my foot down and kept it clean and won.

I suppose the answer is to purchase ALL the properties as a lot have missions attached. Have you done all the Taxi, Ambulence and Fire truck missions, all the special jumps, Rampages, all hidden packages, longest wheelie/stoppie.

One thing I got into was stealing all the Police vehicles. I managed to get police car, MiamiVice car (guys look like Tubbs & Crocket)has flashing light, FBI Rancho, SWAT truck etc. Its tricky but do-able

You need to get 100% of course .. all missions, all properties, all side missions (ambulance, fire, street races, helicopter "slalom" missions on buildings, the arena has missions after about 11pm, all the hidden packages, unique jumps ..) takes forever but I managed it!

Check out www.gamefaqs.com for lots of info on what else there is to do other than the missions.

why not try this
get a PCJ-600 or Sanchez. Now, find a Coach and a Packer. Now you
must find a very long road like the straight away in Little Havana or the
Airport. Line the Packer up vertically and the Coach horizontally. The Packer
should be a couple of feet away from the Coach. The Coach should be in front
of the Packer's truck part where the ramp can be driven upon. Now, just shoot
the Coach a little and get it on fire. Hop onto your bike and put it into
Cinematic View. Now, hit the ramp and it will have a cool action effect.

Take your time on this one and eventually you will be able to nick a tank
store it in the sunshine garages and you can come back to it whenever you want for max mayhem

Well kind of I did not really steal it as I have 93 of the missing objects so it spawns in the army base. I just wonder in there in a cop uniform, climb in and off I go.

If you go on a rampage in the tank, get all your stars lit, the police and FBI give up and they send tanks after you. its quite funny to be crossing from one island to the other in a tank being chased by five other tanks

I managed to steal a tank, it's in my garage

Very difficult, but I had car ready to go into the paint and spray.

Game was good, but ended up boring Looking forward to San Andreas tho

Basically if it moves I have stolen it and/or shot it. Boats, helicopters (even tried to shoot a police helicopter out ot the sky with another helecopter) fire trucks, bikes,etc im currently looking to steal an armourd car which should be fun

That's the key to that mission, get ahead early on and its *relatively* easy. It's when you're behind that you get all the flak from the cops.
