rock band or guitar hero?

Having only been vaguely aware of these games before now, I want one!

Played guitar hero 5 today and it was great fun. What are the differences between the different games? Are the "instruments" interchangable?

Rock Band seems to have more downloadable songs on xbl...

As far as I know it's all interchangerble. Get the latest of either series as they have the most advanced stuff. The main difference is different bands tend to lend their name to only one. Obviously both have the really popular tunes. Rockband has more varied dlc compared to GH.

Well I drove to my local tesco last night and they only had GH5. I'll probably get Rock Band too. It's proving addictive so far!

If your going to buy the full set of instruments, get the GH hero kit as the drums are far better and have 1 extra drum pad.

The GH instruments all work fine with the Rockband games aswell.

Agree with the above, once you have a set of instruments you can simply buy the games on their own and treat them like song packs. Few minor differences between them all, but nothing revolutionary, a lot of them have the same songs too.

If you've got even a hint of love for the Beatles then I'd highly recommend getting hold of The Beatles: Rock Band, the presentation far outshines any of the other Rock Band/Guitar Hero games.

Personal preference is Rock band but they are pretty much the same.
