Xbox Live - Am I going to get murdered?

Hi all,

After arsing about with connections and and routers etc for far too long, I was hoping to have my Xbox connected up to the net within a couple of weeks. But then one thought struck me. I'm crap at MW2 (and Forza3). Not only am I crap but I don't have 5/6/7 hours a day to play on the 360, unlike people who stay up until an ungodly hour, or those without anything to do during the day.

I know its only ~£30 a year or whatever, but is it worth me getting XBL? Is anyone else going to freely admit to being crap and still deriving enjoyment from online? Getting a K : D ratio of 1:25 is not my idea of fun...

As long as you don't take online stuff too seriously its loads of fun to be rubbish at it and in the occaisional games where you have a blinder you can't help but have a little smug smile on your face for a while (well until the next backside kicking in the next game!)

Go for it, online is so much more fun than playing against AI..

Go for it, you will find after the initial frustration and feeling like you are walking around with crosshairs permanantly on you, you will start to enjoy it. When I 1st started i was regualarly running 2 kills - 25 deaths on my ratios, I am a little better now, but only just and I still love it.

FM3 is about enjoying the racing, not just winning, as anyone who has raced against me will confirm, I can build, I can tune but I can't race for a toffee. I have run a number of tournaments non of which I have ever done well at.

You will get hammered no doubt, it would really piss me off but then I have admit I am fairly good. Most games I get 20+ kills to 2 or 3 deaths, I'm never negative.

Yet I have a friend who has 3000 kills and maybe 8000 deaths, he is on every night and could not give a crap, he just loves it.

My first ever MW2 game I had 0 kill vs @13 dealth. It was my only ever game. My team lost obviously.

I have yet to won an online race at Forza3, but I still enjoy it.

Playing online becomes addictive and as long as you have something else to pull you away you can end up one of those people playing till 1am because you think to yourself yeerrr 5 hours sleep is enough for anyone to go to work on

I'm generally good at FPS, in particular I played more Halo 3 than was really healthy.

Then I tried COD4:MW and got WHOOPED. Badly. I didn't like it so I stuck the game in a drawer and went back to Halo 3.

Then COD6:MW2 comes along and I know it's going to be big and all my mates will play it, so I figure - well I need to give it a go.

I was bad to start with. Similar to the above, getting single digit kills and double digit deaths every game. Then I learned to play better and use differnt tactics etc etc. Now I'm often getting anywhere from +2 to +25 on my K/D each game. My overall KD was something like -500 but I've now got it positive, which I'm pleased with.

What I'm trying to say is, don't get disheartened if you get beaten all the time to start with. Just don't run around like a jackass, instead play tactics and learn the game. Then you'll get better and enjoy it more.

On Forza3 then is it poss to just be able to go online and join a race with some strangers.

Like you can on the wii with mario kart.

I dont know anyone else with an xbox who plays F3 online so am unable to hook up with them.

I'm alright at Forza3 and all other racing games, BUT truly wk at COD6 and FPS

I still enjoy playing both types of game online though

I had a look at your KD ratio last night y2 and yes it is crap, tbh mine was just as bad 2 weeks ago but i seem to be topping one in three games now

Don't you get a free month trial with the xbox? I haven't got one (yet ), about to do exams so figured it would be a bad idea But I will be when the exams are over

You can often get 1 month trial subscriptions given away free with some games, I'd perhaps give that a try or see if a kind person will donate one to you.

Personally I think playing online takes gaming to a new level, I've been doing it since Quake days and it never gets boring!

I dont care about stats either, I used to try and have a good accuracy score but now I just shoot anything that moves, its great but I still suck at the game. Every now and then though I get lucky

I play online at both Forza and MW2.

I truely suck at MW2 but I think I am average at Forza.

It is well worth being online, and after playing with the PH lot I feel I am slowly getting better, (Although they will dissagree .

Get online and join in.

I'm a Forza and Halo person - pretty much below average at both but have a lot of fun. Even better if yu've got some mates you can 'hook up' with online, becomes a great social.

Someone above rightly said if you haven't got live it's like having a third of the console, totally agree:

1/3 Having the console and some games

1/3 Going on line randomly joining games (probably with screaming American kids)

1/3 Gaming with people you know

I.e. add all three together to get the whole!

I was thinking of splitting it down even further for getting a steering wheel, but that would be off topic for the online bit.

Also, if there are a few minutes of your week when you are not gaming, I can heartily recommend LastFM too for listening to your own personally compiled radio station.
