FM3 vs NFS Shift

Donning my flame proof jacket slightly here, I dont really like FM3, it came bundled with my Elite along with Fifa and while I love racing games I am not getting on with it
I have previously had (and enjoyed) PGR 3 and 4 and Grid, as such would NFS Shift be a more suitable game for me?
Anyone had any experience of both?

NFS:Shift is a perfectly good racing game. Bit lairier than Forza3 or PGR3/4, more arcadey. It has a good feeling of speed, and whilst the handling’s a tad iffy you get used to it fast.
I traded it in against Forza 3 because I couldn’t bear the styling of it all. It just felt to me that it trying too hard all the time to be down wiv the kidz. Too much bad dance music on the soundtrack, etc.
That said, it’s probably a better balanced singleplayer game than Forza 3, but online was a nightmare of teenage kids swearing and crashing.

I got an xbox for christmas this year, purely for Forza 3 because GT5 was taking too long.
I've had a PS2 for ages, and have had GT4 since release, was a really good game, and I almost completed it. Spent loads of time on it.
I also have my PC, which is full of racing games.
GRID was good, when I got it, I spent quite some time on it, and completed it. However, after playing NFS Pro Street and NFS Shift and various other games, I couldn't get back into GRID, it felt too arcadey and the car didn't feel planted.
Pro Street was alright, there were problems, but it did keep my attention, so much so that I think I completed it about 3 times.
NFS Shift on PC was awesome, best NFS game for a long time. However, it is quite easy to get through to the nfs world tour, and not too hard to complete. However, it is fun and is a nice balance between arcade pick up and go, and simulator.
Then came the Xbox with Forza 3, also got PGR4 from my sister.
Forza 3 was strange at first, and I'm still getting used to it. I don't know what it is, but its like no other driving game I've ever played. Don't get me wrong, I love it, its just I don't seem to be able to drive at the limit, or rather it seems to be very difficult to find where the limit is. Great game, just takes a bit of learning.
PGR4 I was actually very disappointed with, from adverts and videos I'd seen of it, it looked amazing, but as soon as I started it it was awful. The menu system was horrible. The car handling was appallingly unrealstic, and the graphics didn't look much better than my PS2.

Cheers for the replies, dont get me wrong, I do appreciate the game for what it is and the handling physics and graphics are very good, its just a bit dull....
I game for a wind down or a fun 30 mins after work, Fifa allows me to be Wayne Rooney or Lionel Messi even though I am clearly none of these
I like fun in games which is probably where I went wrong getting FM3 as it is a sim, I dont know I cant explain it, I think its just a bit too serious for me and it annoys me that I have to use this car and that car, I wanna use the car I wanna use, I bought an E36 M3 upgraded it and now I can't use it in any races cos it too highly specced....

I can only speak from playing the demo of Dirt 2, but I found it to be even further down the same line as NFS: Shift. Even more arcadey, even more heavily stylised.
All of these are good racing games, by the way … just different points on the graph that starts with realism and ends with Out Run.
From what you’re asking about, I reckon NFS: Shift would suit you down to the ground.

Do you play online? The single player mode of FM3 is a little weak, but it really comes into its own with the online play. Try and avoid to usual on line ram pratts, maybe by joining the hoards of PHers who are always kicking around online.

I will be eventually, I am loathe to pay the £60 odd for the wireless MS adaptor, I am moving at the end of Feb so will be locating my router in my study with the Xbox and will then be online
The fact so many people on here do play it online is the one reason I would consider keeping it, but as I am not gonna be online for another 2 months that just leaves me with Fifa, once I am online I will pick up MW2 and get online.
I guess FM3 may be better with a wheel as well? I have asked the OH for a gamer seat and wheel for my bday in April
NFS Shift is garbage - IMO. The older NFS games were better.
The car 'feel' is rubbish. And all that arsing around with badges, and stars, and points, and blah blah !? Whereas I find FM3 near perfect. A really good simulator. I recently setup my wheel and pedals with a racing seat, and it's bloody brilliant.
If you want to 'MAX' up a car you can play with it in 'Free Play', otherwise you're limited by the rules of the race series.
I'd certainly recommend FM3 to anyone waiting for GT5.

instead of plugging into your laptop you can buy a cheapy wireless access point instead - I use one of these for my living room AV and gaming - only £15!!!

Nice idea, but see post above, I am moving soon and will be having a study/game room, the router will be based in there so am just waiting for that, I'm not in a huge rush to get online, although if I can just plug some ethernet cable in and bridge a network that will do http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169923
