ps3 online with adsl modem?

Hi,how do I connect my ps3 with a adsl modem ?

i know i should use a router,will change my contract early in the new year and get one thrown in,but any cheap way for now ?

if i connect the usb connector from the modem to the ps3 is says unrecognised device.

Unless I am missing something here, just use a LAN cable. Or does your ADSL modem not have LAN ports?. I have had a few from various providers and they have all had LAN ports. Cable for a fiver from Ebay etc and away you go.

I am guessing his USB ADSL modem is plugged into his PC.
In which case you need to use Internet Connection Sharing to then share the internet through the LAN connection on the PC. Then just plug your PS3 into that.

I dont have a PS3 and I hate ICS myself personally but if that is all you have then go for it. There are loads of decent guides on Google.

Thanks for the advice,my ADSL does plug straight in to my laptop through the usb,trouble is its 4 years old but plods on,don't think my laptop has a LAN connection !

You can pick up new ADSL modems with multiple LAN ports for £20 (or less if you don't mind used on Ebay). Of course you usually get one free from new ISPs, but if you are happy with your current ISP then no need to switch just for the sake of a new modem.

Considering my past hassles in switching providers I would have happily paid £20 3 or 4 times over.

Is the connection between the modem and the laptop USB?

Not sure that ps3 can do webby stuff over USB. That error suggests not.

Chances are your laptop does have an Ethernet port, but I guess it's possible it doesn't. I'm not sure you can even get a router which accepts a USB input

anybody on O2 broadband ? and has it been ok ?

I have O2 broadband, it has been OK. Have had some wireless issues where laptops won't connect and O2 claim it is due to surrounding interference (from other wireless networks) and recommend changing the modem channel which usually sorts it. Never had the problem with previous providers and wireless routers though.

For less than £8 per month I can't complain.
