is this worth shelling out for ?
i got GTR mainly because i just want to drive and get to know the ring a bit better (i dont think ill play teh actual game much)
was quite shocked at how good the physics seem in GTR evolution... last time i played any driving games GPL was amaizng but too difficult and GT legends was just ok-ish
question is, is the G25 worth paying for ?
i used to have a logitch forumla force but sadly threw it away .... maybe im better off getting one of those secondhand far cheaper

Brilliant wheel. Can be a pig to setup correctly in some games, but it is relatively easy. The pedals and wheel can take a beating, but the shifter is very poor quality. It is quite common for the soldering on the pots to crumble and break away, resulting in loss of gears.
Someone in here said it's only bettered by the G27? I don't see how paying an extra £150 over the price of a G25 for the loss of sequential gears and a belt drive FFB system justifies the extra price to be honest.

I'm currently using a Thrustmaster RGT Force-Feedback Pro for Pc racing games and am considering replacing it with either the clutch version or a G25.
Basically I'm looking to upgrade to a quality wheel with a clutch.
I've read lots of great reviews for the G25 but can't find any for the RGT.
Is the G25 as good as everyone says and will it be fully compatible with NFS Shift, Dirt2 and Race-On?
Does anyone know how the Thrustmaster Immersion FFB compares with the G25 FFB?
Finally if I decide to go for a G25 wheres the best place to buy right now?

Compared to the Thrustmaster GT, the FFB on the G25 is worlds apart from the Thrustmasters. The Logitech G25 really is one of the best Wheels in the sub £500 market, with it's only rival being the multiple Fanatec models.
As i have said above, the FFB is truly sublime. It can be a little noisy sometimes, but it is certainly bearable, and the noise is usually the vibration between the wheel and desk, which can be dampened with an old cloth.
The pedals are VERY good on the G25. They each have different resistance levels, and the brake pedal could do with some more resistance, but there both pretty much where you would wan't them for a PC Wheel.
The shifter is the only letdown of the wheel, and boy, is it a major one. It's great that you can switch between Sequential, paddles and h-gate, but the shifter feels VERY flimsy and the h-gate offers no resistance when shifting gear what so ever. You can shift it with a slight breeze. The shifter on the G25 is VERY prone to breaking (Commonly, the wiring will break apart from either the shifter pot connections, the wiring board, or both, causing loss of gears.) and will occasionally play up, but never the less, it is still nice to have some form of h-gate, and the multitude of buttons available is nice.
As for places to buy, there are plenty available, all at pretty much the same price, give or take a tenner. Personally, the best place i found to buy from was www.dabs.com. I bought mine from there, and it was delivered to my front door within 3 days (and this was when everyone was aching to get one on realese!) and when the shifter broke, they gave me a complete replacement, and picked up my broken one and gave me my new one all within TWO days! It also came with a 3 year warranty too. So, DABS is my suggestion. I am sure there may be better ones out there, but DABS have made me very happy with not just my G25 purchase, but multiple other electronical purchases i have made from them over the years.
EDIT: Holy bugger. The G25 is available for £120 now?? I may just buy another for that price!

As you say the shifter seems to be the only weak point but I prefer to use the flappy paddles anyway.
I've come across a mod to increase the brake pedal resistance by inserting what basically looks like a piece of pencil rubber.
Overclockers are currently doing it for £120 and I will check out Dabs to see if they are still offering 3y warranty.
It's very tempting to buy one now so that I can play NFS Shift again (new patch out next week) and Dirt2 (also out next week and is one of the first DX11 games).

The G25 is worth the extra. Nothing wrong with a Formula Force but it's just a computer wheel. The G25 is a huge step forward, its difficult to imagine just how much the 900degs of lock add to the enjoyment (at least on GT4).Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
