A couple of human rights groups have been playing war games in the presence of lawyers 'skilled in the interpretation of humanitarian laws', with the usual predictable comments:

k me sunshine! Is Mario going to be branded the next Milosevic for squashing all those Koopas, or are we going to be getting FPNs for breaking the speed limit in racing games? I think 99.99% of people are capable of making the distinction between reality and fiction, and if they ever find themselves in the military, they will be lectured on the rules of REAL warfare.
I know the Swiss get a reputation for being po-faced, humourless rule-lovers - they seem to do well at maintaining it!
P.S. If anyone wants to fund my research into law breaking in games (4 years of constant XBox/PC/PS3 action required), cheques and Paypal donations will be gratefully received.

To be entirely fair, I think some games it would heighten the playing experience a little. I've yet to play OpFlash2, but bearing in mind the type of game (IE, marketed as a simulation) it would definately improve it.
Army of Two (!) on the other hand, it would ruin the experience. As with MW2 since you're essentially a deniable force for most of it.

I tuly hope, that pointless people such as this will become a thing of the past as the current computer game playing geenration reach their age and the old-breed die out.
Soon 40-50 year olds won't be shocked at this sort of thing, as they will have grown up playing the very same, so these pointlesss excuses for wasting money will cease to exist.

Every time I read these things (and it's pretty much every day now), it just reminds me of how absolutely pathetic this country and also this world is becoming. Why is it that organisations/governments feel the need to research these things when there are SO many other elements of life that could be improved?
Firstly, games depict scenarios in which very few people will ever experience first hand, and with games now becoming more realistic, my personal opinion is that it actually strenghtens these events in my mind. It certainly doesn't make me think I can go out into the real world and perform the same acts because I've perfected my headshot with a Barrett .50 cal in an online game.
Secondly, they are preaching to millions of people who are enjoying the game for what it is. A game. Shouldn't they be focusing on the large number of 12 year olds who are playing it under the certification age, or maybe they should start looking into Forza 3 and the NFS series, to see how many people who drive around on streets at 150mph virtually, then decide to replicate this in real life.
I don't want a cotton wool wrapped life, thanks very much you stupids. I want a little joy in my life and to enjoy the things I can while i'm here. I may as well sew my mouth up right now, as my right to free speech will soon be investigated to find that my views are upsetting the pets of 0.01% of the worlds population.
