Bought a new Xbox...... help please

I bought a new Elite a couple of weeks ago.

I’ve been advised that for the most frequent played games I should install them to the hard drive. (to reduce wear on the disc drive and for games to be loaded quicker etc)

I’ve got a few games installed but if I was to delete them from the hard drive, would I lose the saved games and achievements?

It just deletes the actual install files, the saves are stored somewhere else and would need deleted seperately

No, just be careful what you delete. Without seeing it I can't say exactly but I think when you go into your HDD there are different sections, saved games, installed games etc. I removed Forza 2 from my HDD but left the saved game on there.

Just had a brain fart. I did this to get rid of a lot of games I didn't have or no longer played. Each file installed has a seperate file type. It will tell you which one is which if you came to delete it. It tells you which are game save files. Providing you don't delete the ones that say they are Game Save Files, then you should be fine!

I only bought the Xbox because of Forza 3! I still haven’t played it yet though cos I’ve been busy playing old games like Test Drive, GTA4 and Just Cause.

Once I got my broadband sorted out I’ll be sure to play Forza!

Go to the dashboard, highlight the 'play xgame' square and then press Y for game details, this should then give you the option to install it from the hard drive.

Or you can just go to the 'my games' bit of the dashboard, select the one you want and the option 'install to hard drive' is there.

My question is does this actually have any benefit apart from making the Xbox quieter? I installed GTAIV to play Gay Tony and the texture pop-in is still appalling. I was under the impression that installing to the hard drive reduces this?

Try flushing the cache, think you do it by holding down A whilst you start up a game, but I could be wrong.
