Have to say that is most persuasive and cogent argument for 2nd Life I've ever seen.
They ought to use it on their marketing materials.

Just had quick look.

There is a part in the intro about virtual money "Linden Dollors" I think, and how you can purchase these Dollors.

Does this mean people pay real money to buy virtual money?

Yes!

Interestingly, you can "make" stuff in the game too, and sell it to others. One Chinese (I think) woman spent weeks and weeks building fancy houses and things for people to buy in the game, and then converted her money back to real money - actually making a decent amount of real cash.

I know people who've sold accounts/characters in other online games for reasonable money, and there was a bloke in Malasia (I think) who got murdered for having stolen someones magic sword in a game. Some people take it all way to seriously! That said I can see the point of the kind of online games where you run round with a sword hacking people to death, ie they're games, but second life doesn't seem to even be a game.

IIRC she made $1m. People want what she created in this virtual world so they were willing to pay for it. Fair enough.

Wasn't that in WoW? I suppose the argument is that by buying this sword (which cost real money to buy), it was enhancing your enjoyment of a game, much like buying a Momo steering wheel would enhance your enjoyment of your car. The game is no less real than a car. It's there for you to enjoy.

The point is being able to bolt a shed to your left leg and a flamingo to your right leg and stroll around without problems.

After doing that for 5 minutes and being told off by the admin (it took up massive amounts of the screen so people couldn't see who they were talking to), I flew about for 5 minutes trying to find an interesting location then uninstalled it.
