decided to finally give this a whirl
what a load of rubbish... just like the first half life, overrated in the extreme, the M3 of computer games if you like
no music, zero atmosphere, the weapons are really unsatisfying, the baddies are dum dums and generally its a real lacklustre experinence
and its nothing to do with the age of the game.. you can still fire up the original rainbow 6 for eaxmple and it has gameplay and tension in spades
really missing an immersive PC fps game... not since Far Cry 2 have I got into anything decent

yep, I reliase thatthe mediocrity are there to be disagreed with though
its VERY boring so far, I will persevere with it though
to give you a comparison, something like Hidden & Dangerous 2 from a similar era, was MILES more engrossing and stimulating

Fair enough if you found it like that, but I'm confuzzled as to how Far Cry 2 could be better than Half Life 2!
Did they fix the bug found in FC where even hiding in a bush an enemy could spot you from 2 miles away and pick you off? Personally I found FC and FC2 poor games, really bad implementations of the cryengine.

One of my all-time favourites. The graphics are dating a little bit now but it's still pretty enough..
I loved this game. I still love this game.
I may re-install this game now actually.. Havent played it through in a while!

FC2 had issues but it was a massive open world... it felt like you were in that world.
The sense of openess was endlessley compelling.
HL2 is just a liner walkthrough so far.. may as well just watch it all on YouTube. Its NO better than Marathon 2 on the Apple from the mid 1990's.
The sound is particularly pathetic.. sounds of guns, the sounds of badies, bg music, environmental sound... either non existent or toally lacking in depth/quality/substance

Far Cry 2? Really? That is without a doubt the worst game I've bought.
my worst was probably AMOK on the Vic20, truly pathetic
the design and newfangled structure to FC2 means that it could never be classed as a worst ever game. Even if its not your cup of tea it has more than one redeemuing feature. No, the 'worst ever' games are very very poor in all areas from design to gameplay, sound, graphics, re-playability etc..

I'm sure PCGAMER and all those awful sicophantic mags will bang on and on and on about it but when it eventually shows up (late and not even at Beta stage) its design will already be old, hackneyed and defunct.
What about Half Life one with that stupid scene with the giant plant.. that was truly pathetic.

"It won't be any good" may be your opinion, but its not likely be the opinion of many many people, and how you can come to that conclusion without even playing it is beyond me, and takes me back to the thought that you must just be trolling now.
Might I suggest that you remove HL2 from your system, it sounds like you are so pissed off with it that in order for you to continue playing it you will have to endure several stress related heart attacks before reaching the end.

look at Assasins creed... riddled with problems and almost unplayable but it did things that no other game has ever done and at times was utterly brilliant in a way few games ever are.
In FC2 I had some of the most incredible single-player freeform gunfights ever, tackling intense battles in all sorts of multidimensional ways and all goverened totally by my own choices. I can't think of a single nono-multiplayer game that ever gave me that sort of combat. The settings of these were fantastic as well.. shanty towns, large greenhouses, clifftop hideouts etc.. And the African theme was brilliant. An inspired breath of fresh air from the usual trite 'biogenetic experiment gone wrong' scenario. FC2's gunfights alone made up for all the repetition and flaws of the game.

If it gets any better though i'll let you know.
The hovercraft thingy has been going on for SOOOO long... its not even that fun so why make it so damm long. Anyone would think that driving a vehicle in a non-driving gaem is some sort of novelty. Don't wear it out though !
