Edit ## Title says VI it should say V ##

From the sounds of it GTA 5 will arrive late next year. Im assuming it is in the development stages and have seen a few rumours of this being the final installment.

In the EXTREMELY small chance one of the developers decide to stumble across this thread what features would you like to see in the final installment of GTA?

To reply to my own thread;

I would love to see this based off the same storyline as Vice city. The scarface gangster theme was awsome. Although this one could loosely follow maybe 'Goodfella's' or 'American Gangster' type approaches.

Id love some expansion on fighting in a gang. This was seen in GTA IV but id like to see it more. Picture yourself and a car full of buddies run up to another gang and a fist fight follows.

Not really interested in the Girlfriend features of GTA IV, waste of time.

Id like to see something similar to San Andreas, where we have big built up City areas and also huge countryside areas, mountains etc.

BRING BACK PROPERTY!! I wanna own my own mansion again. I want my Strip club back. I want a car showroom again!! I wanna cocane fields on a little island and a drugs factory. I wanna ship drugs across the river to the city.

If anything I think they'll include the drug running gameplay from Chinatown Wars as that was excellent.

Weirdly, I didn't enjoy the latest installment that much, it was simply too big - it demanded too much time, being in cafe's, having relationships, then occasionally, sometimes, robbing a car and tearing about the place.

Vice City was cool, but the map was too small by today's standards. How ever I still remembering blasting down the beachfront on my '600 listening to Billie Jean - awesome smile San Andreas was (and is) my favourite. Brilliant map size, lots of stuff to do etc, really flexible game that didn't intimidate.

Not sure what my wish list would be - I guess 'keep it simple' and to the spirit of the original smile

GF's & Relationships were a waste of time!!!

This is GTA ffs....not The Sims!!!!

I'd like to see a San Andreas map again. Multiple cities and towns with vast country in between.

I'd want further development to the gang side of it as well.

Good thread.

Right, firstly there needs to be more than just the run, gun and drive elements of the game. GTAVI was good but felt very samey after a while. The environments were very detailed but it still felt like a flat, rigid world with no real consequences to some extreme actions.

The world should feel more malleable. Let me explain:

Dynamic consequences should be more apparent. For example if you lost control of your car, stuck it through a shop window and it blew up, the building should start to burn with all the associated consequences - such as escaping people, the descending emergency services, the building being closed and then eventually construction equipment arriving to repair it, it then being clad in scaffolding and tarp, grand reopening, etc.

You should be able to smash through scaffolding with a vehicle and collapse it / breach a window with a gun / break through a wall with a car / collapse a building with enough fire power or cause a bridge to sink with a well placed boat. Destructible scenery gives a more visceral integration with your environment and I feel is the next major jump for the game. Levelling the city would be silly, and it should be hard to drop a building, but the dynamic should be there. 95% of the buildings in the game are inconsequential to the story so should be destructible.

These actions would then have a dynamic change to the flow of traffic as roads are closed / routes cut off. If a McCluckys is burned to the ground, competitors should be busier. News should report the events, etc, etc.

Obviously arson, bombings and attacks on a city of this level should have a suitably harsh response from the in game authorities, something that was just too easy to escape from in the past incarnation.

In a nutshell you should have more effect on the world around you and your actions should carry greater consequences. As your rap sheet grows, police attention and speed of response should grow. You should have to bribe the cops to stay off your back and have some bad cops work for you.

Expanding on that, ;ook at the real crime world and look at all the elements you could implement into the game. Vice City was far better because it incorporated these elements on top of the run gun and drive core; not only did it have real style, the property management side was excellent too. You are a criminal so building up a crime syndicate is what you should be doing. This should be 'Sim Crime', not 'Sim bad driving and poor shooting and being some other fkers bh'. I want to deal drugs, run guns, battle with rival gangs, ring cars and manage it all myself on top of driving like a tt and blowing st up.

Do away with the relationship bks. It was crap and pointless and quickly ignored.

Err, if I think of more I will add it here. Get on with it Rockstar.

I enjoyed Pimping my car in San Andreas, may that should make a return.

Also working out at the gym.

One thing id love to see would be actually 'owning' your own car. One you bought that respawns in your garage everytime you trash it. A message appears something like
'Your local towage firm recovered your car from ## street, we've fixed her up for a reaonable price. We've returned your car to your garage'

I can just imagine my own Lamborghini with black rims and tinted windows. woop

  • A storyline more like VC or SA, where you start as a nobody and gradually build up power and influence until you can challenge for control of the city. The GTA IV storyline was alright, but it never felt like you'd achieved anything (probably because you essentially hadn't)
  • Ditch the girlfriends (they were st in GTA IV and even worse in SA).
  • Bring back property and assets
  • More ways to customise your character like in SA (weight, build, haircut, etc). You didn't have to use them, but they just made it feel more personalised.
  • Bring back skills, in SA you started off as a skinny weed who couldn't run more than 50m or hit a barn door with an AK-47, forcing you to build up stamina and accuracy skills.
  • More mission variety, "Drive here and shoot this guy" becomes a bit dull after the 80th time

I'd love the next one to be a modern take on vice city.

Chances are though that the next one might be a few years in the future kind of a homage to GTA2. Petrol cars are fairly unused. Most cars run on a chemical reactor. So the cops would be in some kind of "skimmer" vehicle and yet you could still hijack a 1967 Mustang and trail blaze it away froma crime scene.

I like the thought of owning property and really miss that side of the game.

Not to bothered about gang warfare if it's handled like it was in GTA4.. it was too sporadic and over by the time you made it back to defend.

I miss having planes to fly, choppers just don't cut it. GTAIV was too gray/brown and made seeing enemies difficult in built up areas...

Also, I always thought it would be fun to be able to buy plots of land (which would occasionally come up for sale) and decide whatever you want to build on them, such as a casino, car dealership, etc. Construction would take a reasonable amount of time and you'd be able to see the building slowly go up whenever you drove past. If you made too many enemies then they might come along and shoot up the construction site, delaying things and you could extract a similar revenge on their assets.

Yep SA had such amazing vastness but it was not overwhelming as each part was clearly defined. I liked the differing environments that the 'State' offered.

Customisation of your character was also important. It was great being able to drop a few pizzas and pie up or get down to the gym to get my hero on. Also RPG style stats and skills were a nice touch; they gave a great sense of achievement and progress, and only allowed you to become a triple hard bd in the last 1/4 of the game - the way it should be.

Cars should be less easy to steal. stty old crapboxes should be easy enough but more modern and more expensive things should be harder. Also when pricey motors are stolen there should be a need to get it into a dodgy garage quickly to get the tracker out, etc. Car jacking should carry a far greater offence level and will be harder to escape from. This makes cars less disposable and forces you to care for them more. Upgradable and increasing skills should also include car theivery so later in the game getting hold of a desirable motor will be easier.

Clear progression beyond a linear story is key in games and worked well in SA.

Oh, and at the top of my wishlist (but probably most impossible to achieve) - real car manufacturers.

San Andreas was the best game in the series so far, the map was huge and varied and you could fly between places if they were too far apart to drive (even if getting the pilots license was a bit tricky)

I would like to see a return to a map with more open countryside and the corresponding variety of missions that gives. Also I don't want to be an Eastern European gangster, that is not cool, being a 1990s gangster from the LA 'hood is!

The concept of using taxis to accelearte your journey times in GTA IV was good so should be kept

Actually just San Andreas with graphics updated for the PS3 would probably do me just fine.

agreed, SA had the best map, the multiplayer from Iv was best. cars were best from SA too! its just such a shame it never had multiplayer on the same scale. Planes were a must!!

I thought that the michelle relationship was in there for decent enough reasons (a plot device), but after that the girls that followed didn't seem to add much and just got annoying, especially the paranoid one who kept dumping you then changing her mind every 5 mins (that was too close to reality to be any fun wink)

Anything like San Andreas would be good, in my opinion this was the best in the series.
