Well last night my 2nd xbox (first was exchanged for same prob) red ringed for the 3rd time in 4 years - SIGH - So i bit the bullet and went for an Elite as i hoping it will prove more reliable, sending the old one away for repair and will keep it for myself and mates as a Backup.

£200 i didnt need to be spending as im broke ffs. I seem to remember there were some people on here that had contacts of people that can be moaned at for this. anyone care to share?

Anyone know why i cant get my wireless headset to connect? i keeps defaulting to controller 2 when its not even connected??

If you're broke, why spend £200 on a computer games console?

Surely you've got to sync the pad and wireless headset? In the same way you'd sync a new pad with your XBox.

im obviously not THAT broke but it puts a dent in saving for a holiday in a month... The amount i use it, its hardly a bad investment. I'm looking at HDMI anyway so i would of needed one in the future.

Check your warranty status. My 2nd 360 broke with RRoD 2 months ago and MS refused to fix it as they said it was out of warranty (expired april 09). I checked again last night and it now says my standard warranty expired 7th Sep 09 and for some reason I'm now able to request a repair for RRoD (whereas before I was presented with a payment screen)

WEHEY, some joy from xbox support - Hopefully!!!!

My email followed by their response, ill keep you posted.

My Mail,

Be specific when describing your problem. The details that you include enable us to promptly send you the most likely solution to your issue.

Morning,

The Problem im having is the reliability of my various Xbox's. I am now on my 4th xbox in 4 years having suffered 5 'red ring' issues. I feel that this is unnacceptable.

I had a 1st Generation xbox from release, then progressed onto a Release 360, within a year this had failed due to Red ring. I took it back where i bought it and got another 360, this item was in June 2007. Last night this failed for the 3rd time since june 2007. It is a complete and utter JOKE how unreliable it is.

I have now resorted to buying an Elite and when my original console is back, keeping that as a spare for the inevitable failure of the Elite. How can xbox expect customers to put up with this? is it a case of We have the best console and people will keep buying it regardless?? I cannot think of one person that i know of that owns a 360 and has NOT had this issue.

Playstation 3 is becoming more and more attractive proposition due to this state of affairs. I dread to think of money i have wasted waiting for my console to come back while im paying for xbox live that i cant even use!!

What does Microsoft/xbox do for customers that are left in this situation time and time again....

Sorry for the rant as i know the person that reads this will not actually be at fault but im at my wits end, i say the same every time it breaks, ill never buy another xbox

Xbox response:

Dear Mr Hall,
Thank you for contacting Xbox Support.
We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction and would like to discuss this further with you. Could you please send me your contact details and also confirm the best time to call you so I can arrange a call back.

Kind regards
Rania Othman.

Well my xbox RROD about a month ago, i know for a fact it is out of warrenty because it was a launch system, also i had to open it up because i was getting the over heating error and i had to hover the bad boy out so they wouldn't fix it even if it was within warrenty.

I wonder if i kick up enough of a stink that they might do it for me?

They'll do it if you pay them. Otherwise it's a new one or sending it off to a 3rd party company for a fix for you.

You'll find that it will possibly be a member from the Escalation team which means that it will be sorted pretty quickly and if you push for freebies, you'll get them. Push for a new console too, they are pretty accomodating if you manage to speak to the right person.

Wireless headset is meant to sync with the Xbox, not the controller.

How do you go about it though... oh and btw i want a new console? or do i just keep asking what are you going to do about all the time i've been without a console? not really sure how to attack without just saying' can i have something free please.

Tbh im pretty happy when all i did was email a general support email address, no one special. i thought i would just get a message back saying sorry etc...

With regard to the headset, its annoying, i press the locate button on both the headset and xbox and it just links to position 2. when i've only got one controller linked this quickly becomes annoying.

i may bring up the fact that i've also had a wireless adaptor die on me this year also. i've been with xbox live since launch also... so thats nearly 5 years @ £40 per annum now!

Hmmmm, i suppose impersonating a Royal and saying that my Granny was very unimpressed that her Cod 4 sessions have been interupted due to the faliure is out of the question.

One needs a good fragging after a long day in the palace.

Just be calm and explain exactly why you're so disheartened by the 360 experience. Make them aware that YOU are aware that they're sending refurbished consoles back to you and ultimately these are going wrong. Tell them that you understand that this is not their standard policy but you've had 5 consoles malfunction on you and you feel the only way to stop this would be for them to bite the bullet and send you a new one.

I kept on from that angle with a member of their escalation team (who are there to solve your problem immediately and keep you happy) and he agreed that it wasn't there policy but felt that I had been unfairly treated by microsoft. I ended up with a wireless headset and controller and a brand new premium xbox with all the accessories including another controller, wired headset, cables, power adapter, etc.. and 4 or 5 xbox live cards.

ETA - It's also worth noting that I googled possible e-mail addresses in order to contact someone of importance as opposed to the normal crappy customer support and after firing off 3 or so e-mails to different people I got a phonecall from someone in the US who claimed to be a director of some sort and assured me that this case would be sorted ASAP. I think the thing that he really took interest in was the fact that before I was sent a brand new console I was sent a refurbished one that was covered in adhesive glue and absolutely covered in scratches and the best part was that it didn't even work!

Good luck with it all. smile

Thanks mate, that seems like a good angle to come in at! ill push for another elite in place of the accessories though!!

Interesting that you should suggest an Elite as a more reliable machine - is this actually the case .. I only ask as my xbox (1st gen, purchased year they came out) has just red-ringed and i have some vouchers for john lewis so considering not sending the machine off and just buying a new one - so have choice of standard or elite.... choices, choices confused
