Apparently a sequal in development.
Is EVE similar to Elite in concept?

That makes me feel so old frown I remember playing Elite on the science classroom BBC at lunchtimes during high school. In fact Elite was to blame for me getting some pretty bad mock O level results, luckily the novelty had worn off by the time the real O levels came around wink

First game I ever played must have been about 5 or 6 all I can remember is the PC was running GEM. Loved it though although always had to get my bro to dock the ship as I couldnt rotate it at the same speed as the station.

Didn't it have the worst security system ever?
As I remember you had this bit of distorted plastic which you had to place over something which then formed a word which you had to enter... or did I just dream that?

On the c64 I used to dock manualy, quicker and safer than the docking computer (it didnt have skip it mode so it actualy did dock itself, usualy badly).

Easy to do manualy, at full throttle...

Remember the first proper followup had realy physics for spaceflight etc, was pants, my machine couldnt cope to well with it either (and it was decent too, amiga a1200 I think), ended up buying the biggest ship possible , filling it with a lot of shields and crashing into stuff.

Yes. It's all the things you dreamed Elite could be...

...and I recognise that docking computer anguish too...

In fact, I think the cost of the docking computer was 1400 credits. It's burnt into my memory.

I remember teh nightmare of never being allowed to hyperspace in an Anarchy because there were an endless number of ships attacking you, never worked out how to do that.

I thknk I got to Deadly though, which I was pleased with.

Hasn't somone ported the original to the PC somewhere?

I wasted soooo much time on this (Amstrad CPC - 6128+ no less!) when I was a kid.

Bloody marvellous.

I had this on an Amiga. Simple, but brilliant, and was my favourite game. I remember the pleasure of picking off pursuing ships with a rear facing laser when things got a bit hot and you had to make a run for it. And the relief you felt when you got in range of the space station to hit the docking computer button and flog on your drugs, guns and slaves.

If you can't dock without a computer, you shouldn't be flying....
