I got offered some peripherals or a choice of a game from a set list when my 2nd one went.

I took a controller personally, £30 odd in the shops, so why not

I had this a month ago, and got a brand new one sent back to me.
The new one is now back with microsoft having suffered a red ring of death.
Fingers crossed, I might have a console when my copy of forza 3 arrives...

I can't be arsed to dig it up, but there's a thread on here where me and some others spell out what we blagged and how we did it. I got some XBL, 2 wireless headsets and a controller, but some other people did better. It involved emailing a bunch of M$ execs, and generally making it clear what a fk up this RROD business is.

I doubt you will. They changed the chipset (and motherboard as well I think) a few years ago, to try and reduce problems. Most Elites would have the new set up.

It's the Falcon chipset, most new Xboxs should have that at least, some newer ones will have the Jasper chipset which is supposed to run even cooler.

I went for an Elite for this reason when I replaced mine recently (also because it looks good in black ), and got the Falcon chipset.

It's a shame they don't replace the motherboards with the newer versions when you return it for the RROD, too expensive I guess, and they'd have to replace the PSU as well.

I had it once, the replacement i got was never the same and constantly suffered problems in the middle of online gameplay and at the most annoying times. Because of this, i stopped playing it so often, until the point where i couldn't even be bothered to turn it on, as it was inevitable it would die at some point in the game.

I've reverted back to PC and bought a Blu-Ray player instead. Best of both worlds now really.

IIRC one of the things on my teardown report was a motherboard!

You should get something free.

I managed to get a brand new boxed console which contained all the neccessary cables and power leads, a new controller, stupidly long ethernet cable, 3 months of free Live and a wireless headset.

Try and speak to someone in the escalation team.
