Guitar Hero

Anyone play this?

I bought it as I like the concept, and my housemates have bought guitars so we often have 'shred-offs'!

I have done the game in medium, but am finding the hard setting, well, erm, hard!

Thoughts from you guys on the series? I have world tour, great tunes on there too.

Going from medium to hard is a big jump.

Best thing to train yourself for hard is to try medium again, but this time only use three fingers, index finger on red, middle finger on yellow, and ring finger on blue. A bit like this.

Then use your index finger for green & red while keeping the middle finger and ring finger on the same colours

|O|x|O|O|x| to |x|O|O|O|x|

Once you have this mastered you can then go to hard mode, and do the same thing, this time using your pinky only on orange.

|x|O|O|O|O|

Same idea for green.

|O|x|O|O|O| to |x|O|O|O|O|

This means only 1 finger has to move to be able to reach all the notes.

This is the easiest way I've found anyway.

This is good advice and what I do, I've a mate who manages to move his pinky instead of his index finger, but your index finger is much more dextrous, so it makes sense to use that one to cover two notes.

Just bought Guitar Hero greatest hits, some cracking songs on there aswell.

Imo the GH/Rockband series of games are all briliant, had some cracking nights in with the full band and a group of mates + beer.

Better track list, better peripherals and better pricing. There is also a lot more DLC available.

yeh but the career mode sucks ass and you cant tell the different notes apart from each other. Like the way it singles out the solos and the finish mash buttons bit as well though.

The majority of GH3 is good stuff... unlike World tour and Rb... esp with the downloadable GH stuff.

Never seen the downloadable stuff for rockband though.

I can't kill Nazi's in real life, I can't street race a Ferrari F50 in real life but I could get a ceap guiter and play 'Smoke on the water' in real life.........................

Its a fair point but it all comes down to patience.... and guitar hero is not really comparable to playing a real guitar in the same way when your mate buys Call of duty 4 or such why dont you tell him to join the army instead?

How many years will it take a complete beginner to be able to fly through eg One(metallica) or Mr Crowley(Ozzy), etc on a real guitar when its achieveable in a few months on guitar hero?

- I ask because GH has inspired me (well kinda... the lack of a GH Pink Floyd may have something to do with it) to start learning the real thing and want to know how long its going to take? - assume im a natural.

Also the arcade style of guitar hero is fun.

Thing is, Guitar Hero got me back into playing the guitar for real. Had a blast with GH playing against mates in easy/medium mode, but then found myself actually practising for hard mode I suddenly realised how ridiculous that was and now spend the time practising on my real guitars, whilst still playing GH occasionally just for fun.

So buy it, have fun with it, and maybe it'll be just what you need to get you inspired to do it for real

Despite having every Guitar Hero since the first one on PS2, I decided to go for Rock Band instead of GH: World Tour, and I'm glad I did. The instruments are much easier to play, the songs are better and it works out cheaper overall.
I just wish they'd finally get around to releasing Rock Band 2 in the UK!

I just don't see the point in 'playing' a 'simulation' of something that I could just as cheaply do in real life.

Part of the reason I didn't like Forza 2 as well I suppose, If I wanted to spend my time fine tuning the set-up of a Golf GTi I would just go into the garage.

I think that's where the misinterpretation exists. It's not a simulation. Think of it as an advanced version of the electronic Simon Says game with some great music and you'd be closer to the point.

I never really understood the point of the GH games but bought the metallica version a month or so back. I expected to find it 'ok' but have found it to be absolutely brilliant. I don't think you can really understand the fun in these games until you actually give them a try for a day or two. They are viciously addictive.

Indeed, I don't think Callan understands just how difficult/sore/time consuming playing a real guitar is compared to a game.

This is before you even consider the cost of maintaining a real guitar/drum kit, changing the strings/skins every month and buying new leads to plug into your already quite expensive amplifier. Finding space to keep them when you're not using it making sure it's not too cold/hot/damp/humid...

That's not including the cost of maintaining a real guitar/drum kit, changing the strings/skins every month and buying new leads to plug into your already quite expensive amplifier. Finding space to keep them when you're not using it making sure it's not too cold/hot/damp/humid...

not to mention that when you've got mates around for a bit of a bevvy it's unlikely any of them are going to want to jam with real instruments nor have said instruments on hand should you desire to.

These are games ffs, the aim is to see who can nail the song perfectly and get the highest score. It's not an X Factor Simulator ffs.

Rock Band 2 has been out here for ages!

I don't see the point in arguments for or against GH or Rock Band, I just treat each game as a song pack I can swap in and out of the tray.
