Any new MMORPGs about?

This is one that has caught my eye.
Seems like an MMO version of Fallout 3.

There's a new expansion due out for WoW pretty soon, if that's any use to you?
Again?Must be nice having 10 million acolytes who have sold you their soul so they can run around the same areas day after day pressing the same buttons and interacting with other fanatics.
No plans for a new WoW pack at the moment, WotLK only came out 9 months ago.
the only other mainstream ones are "Warhammer" and "Age of Conan". The former is...an aquired taste, but they managed to ruin what was a fantastic chance at a game with a great IP. The latter is graphically fantastic, and has a good combat system, but was a mess at launch. Meant to be much better now, but subs are dwindling.
The only REAL gem on the horizon, is Star Wars: Knights of the Republic. Click for possibly the best game trailer *EVER*

Made by the legendary Bioware, it shows great promise (but then, do did WAR and AoC)

Wasn't Age of Conan buggy as hell? And if you didn't exploit the bugs then you just got left behind.
Warhammer should've been fantastic, but from what I heard (again, I never played it) you didn't even get a choice of models so all the Squiggs running about at the start looked identical. At least in WoW most of the characters look different and you feel a bit special.
But the problem for any new MMORPG is that WoW has the critical mass of players, it's not a particularly special game for me, but unless half my guild starts on another game en masse then I'll be sticking to WoW!

AoC was fantastic for the first large "zone" which took you to level 20. Past that, there were massive bugs, imbalances, terrible itemisation, lack of content and lots of missing (promised) content. If you were previously a paying member, you can go back free for 14 days at the moment, I think. Its meant to be much, much better now.
Warhammer...well, the issues you mentioned with items/appearance aren't much of an issue, like WoW as you get to the top end of the gameplay you do see the variation in gear, and like WoW in the early stages most people look similar. WAR's problem is that the crux of the gameplay (mass RvR and Keep sieges) have been terribly implemented and get boring very quickly, plus current hardware can't cope with 200 people fighting over a single small space, so....it....becomes....very....laggy and ruled by AoE.

king christ, that looks good. If only it weren't effectively just a cgi movie though... And if only I didn't have to go to work!Knights of the old republic was a fantastic game, if they could replicate the scale and add freedom of a MMORPG the star wars universe is the best starting point.
I'm not convinced by it, TBH. Bit more detail including game footage here:

Problem with MMO's is that the developers obviously want to attract the biggest audience possible. More subs = more cash, obviously. And to do that, you need a game thats as simple and carrot-led as WoW. What doesn't work is hardcore settings like Ultima Online (for those who remember the joys of PK'ing and death having a real meaning)
They talk about having storylines, and suchlike. Not sure it'll work - all people want to do in MMO's is be the highest level with the most bling items. I find it hard to see how they'll move away from the generic "cut out" of MMO's where you just do repetative/grind quests and group-led instances.
I've briefly played most MMO's - WoW, AoC, CoH, EVE, WAR - and I've never found any of them to be as enjoyable or as satisfying as a good SP game like Deus Ex, Mafia etc.

LOTRO seems to manage it quite well.http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/video-document...

Aion is due soon and looks promising... tempted to pick it up and give it a go on release.
Closed Beta on again this weekend if anyone who got on it is interested.Trace

Rather liked the whole thing.. shame they didn't allow playtime on the most up to date patch. Takes me back to Final Fantasy... and GOD DAMN is it "pretty" >.<

Pretty but the voice sounds are bloody annoying so had to turn them off. It sounds like you are playing that damn 'rubberduckzilla' Oasis advert crossed with Pokemon over and over!
