Game that suprised you...

I was pondering the other day...
I recently bought Spiderman: Web of Shadows for something to do, and (almost rightfully) expected it to be a pile of weapons-grade mediocrity. Actually it's really good!
Question is - what have you guys bought that turned out to be much better than expected?

Needed a good gorefest to replace gears2 which me and a mate played to death and got a bit bored of after completing a few times on insane. Played the demo and didn't like it much, felt like a 5 year old game to play. Picked it up, lost count of the amount of times we've completed it, and it's only starting to become a bit boring.

I was very suprised at the vastness of Fallout 3. I was expecting it to be much more linear despite it's Bethedesa origins.
Dead Space has suprised me... On several occasions... against my will... late at night... in the dark... alone. A game the genuinely makes me happy to turn off the Xbox and go to bed, not because the game is bad, the complete opposite in fact... it has me on the edge of my seat from the moment I pick up the controller all the way to trying to bury myself in the sofa in an attempt to hide from the virtual monstrosities...
Street Fighter IV suprised me in that it was like being 12 again, playing on a SNES with much improved graphics. I was expecting more move's/combos given the scope of the 360's controller... But then again, It's simplicity and fealty to the series makes it just as good a beat 'em up as any... Does make it a little more frustrating though >.>

te. It turned out to be one of my favourite games.
COD4 came as a shock too - I didnt even realize it was out, and happened to be in the shop on release day - fantastic.
Forza surprised me too - Never believed that an xbox racer could rival (and beat) Gran Turismo.

The game that totally surprised me still does and is the only game of recent times that I have uninstalled after completing it and then reinstalled it again later was Thief:Deadly Shadows. It came with a graphics card I bought and only installed it to have a look but was totally hooked on the game play.
Morrowind. I'd never played a game of that genre before and it after 30 minutes on a mates game I was hooked. Oblivion continued the obsession for me, but as I knew what to expect I obviously wasn't as surprised.
Deus Ex was an absolute revelation.
Carmageddon was like nothing else i'd ever played, brilliant, brilliant fun.
Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Bargain basement, £5 cheapo bin game that was bought for me by a distant relative one christmas, I didn't play it for ages thinking it looked garbage. I still play it 10 years+ (?) on and i've lost hundreds of hours to it. I've even had geeky conversations down the pub with mates about it.

Black on the PS2. I just expected a half decent shooter after I'd completed Killzone, but it was fantatic. I was hoping there might be something about a PS3 sequel at E3, but not heard anything yet. 
+1Black was massively under rated, one of the best FPS's I've played and that includes the likes of Halo and CoD.
