Best PC Racing Game?

About to make the move to PC gaming... what is universally agreed (if that is possible) as the best PC racing game?

Not into PC gaming myself, but from what I've seen I'm going to say Rfactor, love the whole idea of 80's touring cars

I bought rFactor and installed TCL a few nights ago. All I can say is WOW...! It's bloody brilliant, but that said, I am an 80's touring car nut. The cars actually sound right as well, perhaps apart from the RS500 which is a bit raspy. The E30 M3s, Commodores and SD1 Vitesses sound fabulous...!

It doesn't even need an amazing PC to run it. My 4 year old Dell is running "Ultimate" graphics detail setting at 1280x1024 (native LCD res) and I reckon it's comfortably north of 50fps...

If you're after a 'sim' as opposed to a 'game' have a look at http://www.iracing.com it's amazing, I'm completely hooked!

Simulation. I'm aiming on getting a decent steering wheel / pedals (maybe even a racign chair if the wife doesn't veto it)

Personally I prefer rFactor, the PH league on sunday nights is great fun and the number of tracks and cars avalable is fantastic.
Almost all of the cars and tracks are user created, many of them are very high quality.. but not all.

I tried iRacing but I didnt get on very well with it, athough others on here think its very good.
This might be a better bet if you want to be racing every night. The dissadvantage is that its much more expensive than rfactor as you have to pay for individual cars and tracks + monthly subscription.

IRacing is a subscription based online thing, so your constantly paying to use it.

I play Live for Speed alot at the momment and really enjoy it with a simple laptop and an xbox360 controller. Just wish they'd release the VW Sirocco as then it will make it more competitive.

You pay for the quality, accuracy and convenience of the product. Constant updates too.

Not sure if theyre still doing it, but logitech were packaging rfactor with the g25. great wheel. http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=news_06-05lo...

Also not sure if theyre still doing it, but Radical sports cars were giving away a 1 month trial of iracing (which nets you a few tracks, a Radical SR8, a Pontiac Solstice (like an mx5), and a legends car). http://www.radicalsportscars.com/racing/virtual-ra...

As the OP can probably deduce, theres no universally accepted "best of", some people like the flexibility that rfactor offers, some like the detail that iracing offers, and some like lfs tyre model.

A shout should go out to nkpro as well, as its a pretty fine piece of software, although it has its flaws, the driving model is pretty good.
