Hi, was just wondering if any of you guys had any tips for a decent drift setup on forza 2?

Have been playing for a while, have some cars that drift well, but was wondering if anyone had any good advice regarding the best state of tune, suspension setups etc??

Cheers

Tell me a car to start with and I'll do a step by step guide if you wish?

edit: start with something rwd, 4wd is for fairies.

If you use a AWD drive car you have just set it up for 100 or 90% rear drive..

Dibbs will be along in a min, his R34 is the best drifter i've ever driven..

Get adjustable brakes, suspension, ARB's, Diff, etc etc lighten it fully if you want.

Power should be ok, but a little more wouldnt go amiss... evil not a priority in such a car though.

Go wide on the tyres, and probably go for sports tyres (one below slicks) - even in drifting, grip is a friend - it allows higher speed drifts, which make more smoke and are more fun. smile

then report back here, I'll post up a basic set up to start with.

Not necessarily true, JH you've seen my million hp R32 - its not really set up at all, but it has 40% front torque, and it'll come out of quite literally any angle. Infact, its the only way it goes round.

As a new drifter or someone wanting more of a challenge/enjoyment (IMHO) - I'd start with a rwd car.

Thanks mate - I understand the principles well enough...

Righty... Tyre pressures - two possibilities, all 29psi or the rears could go a little higher to deliberately get shot of grip... start with 29 all round.

alignment I'd keep relatively stock, maybe 2 degrees toe out (err, negative on the game I think?) - though 0 will be fine. I'd adjust caster to about 5.7 and have all wheels at 1.1 to 1.2 degrees negative camber.

Springs - I'd go for pretty soft at the front, maybe 295 and hard at the rear, say 450 if lightweight, 550 if no weight loss. Keep ride height level and give a little ground clearnace - the tiniest fraction of roll helps me feel for a drift, I dont like it to skate round without warning.

ARB's - 1.00 at the front, not more than 10.00 at the back (I hate ARB's generally..)

gearing - leave it alone

Brakes - 110% and 50/50 should suffice, but can allow for alot of adjustment if you want to start playing with them to unsettle the car - I'd typically push the brake bias rearwards by 5-10 if I wanted more of a trail braking effect to bring the back round into a slide.

Diff - I'd start at 67 accel and 20 decell, in theory the more its locked, the more it'll kick out and stay spinning (think like a welded diff) - but it may be a little on/off for some, so I'd start with the above and if you're comfortable, move up on the accel setting... I wouldnt actually adjust the decel too much, by only having 20 - you'll have brought in some decent lift off potential there, which is more advantageous IMHO.

Let me know how that feels or if I have missed anything obvious in terms of things to adjust. Alot depends on your driving style, and I've not yet played with a mustang - so this is mainly theory stuff, report back with a little feedback and I'll suggest some tweaks if you wish. smile

Nice one. I'll give it a go tonight and report back. I found a tune on the Forza forums for a 67 Camaro Z28 which I'll have a got at too.

Ultimately, would like a combo of US Muscle and Modern Jap stuff.

Nice! thumbup

With forza theres just a few things I always have to adjust from how I'd do things in reality - for starters, theres the peak tyre psi vs grip thing built into forza - which isnt exactly accurate... then theres the simple fact that alot of the things you'd use for judgement simply cant be felt in the game, which is why I tend to run all my cars (regardless of what set up - fun/racing etc) relatively soft, the body roll is a welcome thing to guage the cars grip IMHO. Other stuff is just driving around the physics engine - if I had a real life ability to bring back cars from such angles/situations as I have done in forza - I'd be a driving god! Unfortunately, I have a rather large amount of fear built in to me in reality, so I usually drive the Cerb like a wuss on track. heheevil

I knew you'd have a pretty good idea of things as a base anyway, your locost racing/ ultima builds have no doubt given you a massive advantage in understanding to most people. smile Oh and I know you get this all the time, but thank you for the websites - I've spent farrr too long trawling through it all. bow

bcensoredy drive them, which is a bummer as it looks a great laugh frown

This is something I have been considering. To lift of power and get the aRSe to come around slightly gives you the ability to maintain a Drift for longer.

Fun in Forza... possibly a bit scary down a one car width country lane laugh

If anyone wants a copy of the Skyline just shout thumbup It is a good laugh and easy to get started with being precise with the car.

Ben is didnt mean thats all you need to do! I meant if you want to make a drift car from a AWD then lose all or most of the front drive.

I also think that drifting is done for fun, there are no winners. If a driver get the fun from a AWD drift car then thats great.
And Dibbs' R34 is the best* Drift car i've ever driven...

best* = most fun

You're more than welcome mate! Glad people still enjoy them and find them useful!

As you rightly point out, no physics engine in a game can ever re-create the accuracy of your sphincter - which is really what gives us real world driving 'feel'. Which is why I need to better understand how to 'frig' the Forza tuning so I can get a car to handle like it would for real (though I have to say, drifting in 'pukka' drift cars like that 200 is actually blimmun uncomfortable - mainly because as you say, they grip far more than you'd think!). Sorry to say I don't have enough time (read - too lazy to try much wink ) to experiment in Forza much but I can do a fairly decent job with the old-skool muscle cars as stock. I use a controller rather than a wheel too which is a blessing and a curse.

Thanks again for the tips - drop me an invite if you see me online - gamertag is PistonheadsStig (obviously hehe )
