We have a PS3 that is used fairly often.

BUT we both want to get a bit fitter, and everyone is raving on about Wii Fit.

So I'm tempted... But is it worth getting the console just for this? because I doubt that we would use it for other games, or would we?

PH, I value your input more than 'reviews' and people at work hehe please tell me what to do

Are you...

A) A girl
B) Under 12
C) Over 50
D) Retarded

If you answer yes to any of the above, then yes. The wii is for you.

Oh, and Wii fit / Wii sports, you really need to be doing it every other day.
That's the plan - on the nights we are not cycling/running (when we get into the habit of going of course wink)

I've had one since day one, besides Zelda and Super Mario it has sat there gathering dust, it gets wheeled out once in a while for the novelty aspect, but for the hope Nintendo would bring out some more quality games rather than lifestyle titles it would have been sold on long ago.

If you're buying it as a gimmick for a bit of entertainment now and then, by all means go ahead, but if you're buying it as a way to get you fit then there are much better ways to do it. 6 months at a gym is miles better value and you won't feel like such a cretin for running on the spot in your living room wondering how your life has come to this.

I only play the tennis on ours. I have read they bringing out an add on for the remote which will improve playability further.

Give over.

I thought that untill I got one. True, they are not serious gaming machines, but that wasn't the market that Nintendo was aiming for, or indeed have ever aimed for.

It's a machine for having light hearted fun with.

Ignore the boring gits Ali and get one. we haven't suffered any sort of faults with ours and find it great fun and value for money.
I'm not boring, I have a wii, its just useless. It sits in the cabinet unloved.

The DS on the other hand, I love that thing.

Oh, and I come under D) just incase you were wondering.

For my serious games I have the PS3, and I use it biggrin

I don't even know if I want a Wii, I just want to know if the Wii Fit is any good, and if it IS, is it worth me buying the Wii just for that.

I'm sure that if we do get one, we will end up buying other games for it.

I don't want to buy one and have it go the way of the 360 - sat unused til I sold it hehe

Original question though was about buying it to get fitter. A simple Gym regime over a few months will give you much greater results than anything Wii Fit can offer, unless you're only interested in low resistance exercise and yoga.

By the sounds of it the PS3 gets used a lot already, and I'd choose a PS3 over the Wii any day of the week for gaming.

I'd liken Wii Fit to one of those crap fitness DVDs you see a deluge of on TV after Christmas, I'm sure you'll get a little fitter if you do it day-in, day-out and stick to it religiously, but your time and money would be much better spent elsewhere. Half of the problem being that it's in the front room and it's just as easy to pick up that remote and start watching TV or dicking about on Wii Sports instead.

I got a Wii last Wednesday. That stopped me playing Killzone dead (we for now anyway). I got House of the dead and play it with wife. She loves blasting the Zombies! Oh sorry… Mutants.

I'm really loving the Tennis as well. Great fun and my right arm hasn’t stopped aching since I got it.

Pick up Samba de Amigo as well, probably burns as many calories as any of the games in Wii Fit!

My daughter's got a wii, she's got learning difficulties and her co-ordination isnt that brilliant but she finds the wii really easy to use, unlike other consoles where you need fine finger control sometimes to operate. Its cheaper than the latest Xbox/PS3 although the graphics arent quite as good.

This. They are absolute arsegravy. No redeeming features... unless your parents are over and you fancy seeing your mum attempt to play golf in a cackhanded way, while repeatedly explaining that YOU HAVE TO HOLD "A" TO HIT IT.
No, hold that button.
Hold it down.
Then swing.
No you have to hold it down.
Hold the A button, mum.
AAAGH!

We got ours as a free gift with a mobile phone, and it was STILL a rip off.

If you don’t count a redeeming feature as a bloody good laugh with mates or accessible fun for all with a sense of humour.

We've got a wii and it's very good for party games and the like. Wii fit is for people who want to pretend they are getting fit.

Hate Wii, hate Wii, HATE Wii.

You want some decent exercise, why not enjoy the great outdoors and indulge in some dogging?

Seriously, the whole buying a Wii Fit to get fit thing is beyond me. I'd take a brisk walk in the fresh air over contorting myself indoors in front of poorly rendered graphics any day. Get some proper exercise girl wink

As a social tool I also predict that the Wii will be remembered as beginning of the end for society as we know it. After experiencing a 'fun fueled' evening at friends with their newly purchased Wii, I hope I never encounter one of the wretched things again. If I do I will make a point of 'accidently' spilling my G&T over the machine before it even gets close to being switched on. I fail to to why jumping around on the spot for 10 minutes after consuming 3 courses of rich food and the best part of a bottle of red wine 'in the name of fun' could be construed as anything other than completely stupid.

Give me a good old fashioned wife swapping party and a game of naked twister, that's what after dinner entertainment should really be about.
