PS3 - Can you change your online ID?

Just signing up for an ID and i'm thinking this is permanent so it has to be good/memorable. If I don't like my online ID can I change it later?

Pretty sure it tells you when you submit your id that you can't change it. Although I'm sure you could sign up under a different email address, not 100% sure though
