Rfactor novice races / PH learning sessions

Hi all

I've recently dusted off my G25 and rfactor again and "remembered" how simply amazing it is (I'm starting off gently in the rather entertaining MX-5 cup). However I am nowhere near being able to join a proper season with you all yet. What I was wondering was whether there is any appetite for a Novice season / series of session?

The principles behind this are that it's always better learning by doing and this would cover things such as general online racing (the "how-to's" of session / server finding etc) but also handy hints and tips and set-ups.

For example I don't seem able to catch oversteer very well. I think it's the G25 settings but the best way to see would be to ty out other tried and true settings. In addition it may be possible to pick up tuning and setting hints and tips (or swap straight set-ups?)

As an added bonus it would also serve as a neat way into getting to "know" the regulars and be able to have others to race online...

Of course..this may already exist, in which case can someone point me in the right direction?!?

I used to race in the PH league, but due to hardware issues (i.e. its st) I havn't played for months. I'd be interested in something less intense than the league just because it wouldn't be as catastrophic if (I mean when) my framerates drop off. Not sure about setting up though. Maybe need someone more in the know.

Edit: Obviously, having raced in the past, I could provide advice regarding joining games/servers etc. But I do need more experience with setups.

We used to do fun races on wednesdays but there hasnt been all that much interest.

I ciuld make it mose wednesdays if anybody wanted any help.

I wondered about whether something could be setup for a Wed or Thurs night.

Ya beat me to it. Great idea and count me in.

What do we think to setting one up? An individual uses their own PC connection or a dedicated host pc?

tell me what you want ie cars and circuits and i'll create a seperate profile just for messing about. It can be an open session or a simple password which can be put up on the forum to stop wreckers from turning up.

Is there any chance we could go with Thursday night instead of Wednesday as I have Cricket nets on a Wednesday? No worries if not I'll just have to attend what I can.

I would prefer it if we used whatever league cars and track we are using the following sunday, that way I can get some practice in.

Thursday is better for me as I quite often go to the cinema on wednesday when its half price.

5 minute races would be a good format.

I can do thursdays but no other weekday, so count me in if we get it going.

I think I'd rather we ran different cars to the league otherwise it gets all a bit samey, or is that just me?

Another vote for Thursday evenings for me.

I'm thinking that keeping it to fairly slow and controllable cars will make things better for all and therefore give much better racing. You think that 5 min races is long enough? I know 15mins will be too long though. How about 10mins?

As for classes to run I think its got to be one of these (IMO)

Or one of the bog standard cars, Kodi Rayzor, Kodi ZR or the Rtrainer. (at least with these, once everybody gets to a certain level you can up the standard of car (quicker versions).

~Very kind of you to offer the server Mark. How about each week the track raced on the Thurs/Weds is the same lined up for the Sunday evening lot.

Rather than me having to keep creating new profiles each week, I will create one with the car mod and however many tracks you want. The race length / driver aids etc will be the same each race just down to you guys to move to the next circuit.

Or as Holst suggests, the forthcoming race series but with all the driver aids on plus all the tracks. People can just use this then to practice / mini races then we switch the server profile on Sunday for the propper race.

You can have a couple of different car mods int he same profile if you want seing as it is only a mess about.


The server is ours 24/7, so as long as it does not take up too much of my time to keep changing, you can have what you want - after all you have paid for it

Erm - I've not paid for anything. Who do I pay, how much and how please as I want to make sure I'm doing my bit!

I will see if I can make some of these. Especially as Iw on't make many Sunday races until the winter after the end of the current series. You will find I will disapear altogether in the summer as the room where my pc is in gets really hot and it's not the best conditions for me or the pc!

if possible I would rather use real cars and ciruits then the fantasy ones.

Also I nominate that PCC07 could be used as they are pretty good to drive quite quickly.

Perhaps we could get a poll started as to what people want to use.

I like them, the PCCGB 08 ones would be even better. (same mod just different colours) I wouldn;t be able to make this week if it happens but hopefully next week.

I'm easy car/track wise and Thursday is good for me too. I'll leave you guys to decide what we're running and I'll be there

Oh, and I vote for a closed server to keep the riff-raff out

The problem with PCC is that the cars handle completely differently to any other in rfactor.
Although they are rear wheel drive most of the weight is at the back so you have to push them to turn in and them get on the power early.

I dont think these skills will transfer very well to any other rfactor mods.
When we were racing the porsche's and I tried a different mod I was always much slower untill I learned the odd style you need again.

A more neutral mod would be better.

Driving the same track as that weeks leagues race would be very handy for learning the track, even if you dont have the same cars.
This will also save us the trouble of choosing the track on thursday and save MJ the trouble of loading new tracks.

This will be ideal for thursday fun racing

OK, server is up (having let the PC run since yesterday uploading all of the files) It's all of the cars in the TC Mod and I have added Knockhill, Cadwell, Mallory, Snetterton, Rockingham, Brands, Pembrey, Castle Combe, Silverstone, Donington, Oulton and Mondello.

5 Laps Race.
All aids are available including AI.

Look for Pistonheads as the Server name or the usual I.P.
Password is : pistonheads
There is no Admin password, so to become an administrator (to switch tracks etc) in the chat box type /admin and /admin to end.

Server will be up until Sunday morning, when it will be switched to the League Circuit / car.
