gt 5 prologue - what is new (since it 1st came out)?
Discussion
I haven't hooked my PS3 up online yet, so am still running the original version. I am sure I heard that if I hooked it up I would get some new cars (including Lotus Evora - yum) and other things have been tweaked too - am thinking of switching to wireless broadband which should mean I can get online, but am I really missing out on much? The official website isn't much use.
It will update automatically if you're online. As soon as you put the disc in and attempt to play it'll tell you there's updates available and download/install them.
Often the changes are monly minor, but they do include as you rightly said new cars (once), and changes to the physics. These major updates don't happen that often though, so don't be expecting new cars or the like every couple of weeks...

i'm tempted to do it just to get the evora to be honest... will it be worth the hassle of changing broadband provider, having to re-set modems/computers and the like - that's the question!
I'm with talk talk with a cable modem but am thinking of changing to someone who can provide tv, wireless broadband and phone for a bit less than I am currently paying combined. Getting the PS3 online would be an incentive to do it. Is the online racing any good? The computer racing is dire, starting 12 seocnds back in a faster car and then having to pass everything, never having any scraps and so on, I guess against humans it is much tighter and more exciting (if it works)?

You guessed it - online racing is a whole different ball game.
It's worth having a relatively quick connection speed to avoid 'lag' though - otherwise your opponents will seem to teleport around the track, which isn't ideal.
It can also be frustrating, as there are plenty of 'punters' that will simply drive into you to get round you. Though Polyphony have tried to combat this by ghosting the offending car, more often than not it doesn't work and that can be infuriating. Especially so as the collision physics is awful - meaning that if there's even the slightest contact you're in the grass.
Conversely, there are also people that get incredibly anal about contact. Obviously not every time it's deliberate, and 'racing incidents' do occur. Unfortunately, due to the crap collision physics this has led to some people taking huge offence at being touched - deliberate or not. Instead they spend their time in races with like minded people doing no overtaking except slipstreaming on straights, and leaving the door wide open for other people to do so as that's considered 'etiquette'. Riiiiight.
However, don't let me put you off. For the most part, it's hugely enjoyable, and really where gt5p actually comes alive. Staying behind people forcing them into a mistake, or trying desperately to stay in front of someone quicker than you are good fun.
It's definitely worth it

That pretty much sums it up to be honest. It IS worth getting it online - the player matching is good, so the races are normally pretty close.
I live in the middle of nowhere, and my connection is UNDER 1 meg, but it works seamlessly for me.
The other good point is that you will be able to join in with the PH time trial championship : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Have not played Prologue online for almost 12 months. The PH 'fastest lap' tournaments were good fun and I really should get back into it, but the online races ultimately ended up being a frustrating experience as the majority of people that I encountered seemed to be more interested in running you off the track, as opposed to racing. Having said that, 12 months down the line it might well be different as I would imagine that the majority of 'kids' would have move onto something else by now, leaving behind a core group of people who are more interested in close knit racing.
If I keep getting mullered in KZ2 I might dust down my steering wheel and see if I can still cut the mustard.
