I purchased 1 month of xbox live for £4.99 on 23/12/2008. I specifically bought 1 month only, as I was home from uni for the holidays.

Today I just checked my statement and another £4.99 has gone out this month. I even checked my direct debits and I had nothing set up on that account.

What the best way to go about stopping these payments? On my statement it says that it was a card payment. Surely that can only happen with my authorisation? Anyone else had similar problems?

i had this problem, they just started taking money from my account like you said. Wasnt aware i "subscribed" to the service as such.

Luckily for me my card expired a month or two after so they couldnt take any more money. I assume you can just phone up and cancel it though?

I pay for my seccond account this way. I don't see it as a problem as it's what I want to happen.

I presume that to cancel you can do this via your profile on the xbox or by logging in here and reviewing your subscription:

Never give Microsoft your card details for a Live payment as you will regret it in the future. Just buy a prepaid card in GAME or somewhere like that.
It took me 9 months for them to cancel an old account that had an expired card linked to it. Because I didnt have the card anymore they refused to cancel the subscription (but still sent me reminder emails every week asking me to renew with a new payment).
If you like talking to support staff in another country that make you want to kill them by not answering your questions or using common sense, then ring xbox live support numbers.

Managed to call them and cancel it. They don't refund it or freeze the membership, so you cant use it at a later date which is a bummer as its basically £4.99 down the drain as I dont have access to my Xbox till March. Oh well, will get a pre paid card thingy next time.

Bah! Wish I knew this earlier. Put a card on there few weeks ago to buy some points. Gonna see about getting it removed now though!

Just rang up the helpline number and spoke to somebody with not too bad English. Got my card removed as I don't want it on there, will use pre paid cards from now on.

The number was freephone 08005871102 I think, and now my card will be removed apparently.

It's not a direct debit.
