Some family have just replaced their xbox 360 after it began to freeze up regularly. No red ring of death but needed restarting every ten mins after a while.

Can they be repaired and at 129 quid for a new one, is it worth it?

Xbox didn't have any problem repairing mines under warranty when it started doing that but having no idea how to go about sorting it myself I'm afraid I can't be of much help! laugh

send it back under the 3 year RROD warranty if it is unmodded. Tell them it has the red lights (not that it works sometimes) as this is the same problem.

Nice, cheers. Ill try it.

Didnt know the warranty was 3 yrs. Will I need the receipt for this? Confident the relatives wont have it but its definitely less than 3 yrs old.

Nope you won't need a receipt.

0800 5871102 will get you through to someone who speaks very little english and is about as useful as a left handed screwdriver, but he/she will then take you through the reconnect the leads/Hard Drive etc. guff and issue you with a way to get in contact with UPS to arrange a pickup time.

Turnaround is usually about two weeks and if you moan enough about how dissapointed you are they tend to throw in a wee free-bee! laugh

How long have you had the xbox? you dont need to contact Microsoft take it back to the shop where you bought it from. They should repair or replace it. Look up the sale of goods act.

Mine recently died and i took it back to the shop and they exchanged for a new one - though i did need to speak to their head office first as the people in the shop didnt seem to know what their obligations were.

I recently had mine repaired under warranty (first year). I organised it all through the xbox website, registered the consoles S/N then requested a repair. They emailed me a UPS shipping label, I arranged for UPS to pick it up, it was gone for 10 days and came back with a note saying they had replaced the motherboard oh and they gave me a free months subscription to xbox live.

You have a 3 year warranty for RROD, everything else is 1 year. Just tell them it's RROD'd and send it back!
