Fancy dashboard, avatars and most importantly a facility to copy games to the HD to cut down on the noise from the thing.

What do people think about being able to copy full games to the hard drive?

Personally i think that it will drastically increase the lifetime of the machine, hopefully.

edited to make it clear what would last longer

I'm quite looking forward to the new dashboard layout, bit bored of the current look of it all and the avatars etc look interesting.

The big thing for me is definately the ability to install games onto the HDD. Allegedly speeds up the loading times etc, which I guess makes sense as it's not having to come off a disc.

Based on that theory would I be correct to also assume that any games that stream off the disc, ala GTA4, will lose any occasional texture delay they may get when streaming off the disc?

No idea. I'll probably need to get one of the larger 120GB HDD though. I don't think the 20GB will cut it.

There's also an "xbox slim" coming very soon. No doubt just after Christmas.

I bought my Elite 2 weeks ago, bugger! wink
Looking forward to being able to quieten it down by ripping games to the HD and it looks like my decision for the Elite was a good one! biggrin

^^ the avatar thing actually looks quite good. It will be interesting to see how it gets integrated into the newer games...

So will this update mean we no longer need to worry about running games of the CD, i presume we will still need the CD when the game starts to verify you actually own the game?
Ive currently got the 20GB model, is that likely to be enough, tend to play GTA4, PGR4 & Forza 2 mostly, or will i need to buy a bigger HD. If i need a bigger HD is it possible to copy current saved game files to a new HD or would i need to start all the games again?

You'll probably need to opt for a 60 or a 120 I'd have thought.

I've got a 20gb and its almost full with some arcade games, music, and some videos. I don't really want to sacrifice that so will probably have to upgrade at some point.

I am pretty certain that you can transfer everything onto a new hard drive. You used to have to send away for a free kit, but I think Microsoft have started including that in the hard drives. I'm not sure, hopefully someone can confirm.

Be good to find out about transferring content from one drive to another. Also anyone know where I can get a cheap 60 gb drive?

Its highly likely to work in exactly the same way as a PC game, the CD will need to be in the drive and briefly accessed to verify the game is legit, and then everything else will be done via the Hard Drive, I'm just astounded it has taken them this long to introduce this feature!

Yeah, the games will effectively run off the HDD. The disc will only be used to like, prove you've actually bought the game.

It should speed up load times quite alot, be alot quieter and be generally better.

Just hope it won't have problems like they did when they did that last update on Live.

My FD here at work has friends in Microsoft and they've had the dashboard for a while now and they said it works perfectly.

Just found this:

http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com/hh/web/home/hhau...

I get the following message:

According to our records you own a console which has enough memory to connect to Xbox LIVE and live the new Xbox Experience. The next time you turn on your Xbox 360 console and connect to Xbox LIVE you will receive the update. Have fun!

In answer to those queries regarding copying from your old HDD to a new one, I recently upgraded to 120GB in anticipation of this update and it comes with a cable and software cd to copy all your game saves, demos etc from your old HDD to the new HDD.

It only works once though, and auto formats the old HDD, so you can't copy stuff onto the spare HDD to take to mates houses etc.

Is it just me that thinks that site is not legit?

Ok, so who's tried putting in their console info on that site so far and does anything happen?

Just want to check it's def not some kind of scam, as all official sources say the dash update isn't due until 19 November smile

Ignore me, just googled the link and found out what exactly it was smile

Just a way of getting a cheap HDD if you have an arcade console.
