Can anyone recommend games (preferably PC) that feature a reasonably accurate representation of the Nordschleife? Not after learning braking points or anything, but a vague idea of where the track goes would be useful.

In fact... is there anything you can download with the 'ring on it? A demo of something or an online sim that you can practice on for free?

rFactor - and you can download a trial version.

www.rfactor.net

Then download Nordschleife

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Nordsc...

and extract to : rfactor/gamedata/locations

You'll only be able to run the demo cars, but it's a start. Or buy the full game from amazon for £18 and run pretty much any car you want (once you've downloaded it !)

GTR Evolution is the best version to date, about £30 in the shops, not sure if it has had a UK Release but it is out. Or you can get rfactor and the home home made version, which is good but as good as the GTR Evo version.

Thanks gents.

I've managed to locate a version for GT Legends (which I've already got at home) based on the GTR one, so I'll see if that works.

Failing that a mate has offered to lend me his old PS2, complete with GT4.

Can anyone describe whereabouts on the circuit the tourist fahrten laps start and finish?

Halfway down the main straight.

The rFactor one above inlcudes the Tourist layout so you can exit at the right point on the main straight and avoid the new GP circuit.

Indeed they are, hence bridge to gantry timings smile

Although I'd done several hundred virtual laps, nothing prepares you for the real thing, and within 10-15 corners I was completely lost until some of the more memorable points like the fuchsrohe etc. It does however give you some kind of comfort factor, and well worth doing smile

The biggest thing for me was just how narrow the Ring seemed, compared with the virtual stuff, that and the road surfaces, and huge changes in elevation etc.

Good fun though smile

Is that a demo?
I see release date according to Game is 5/9.
I didn't realise it was an expansion pack though... scratchchin

I downloaded the GTL track - which I think is the same as the GTR2 one. The level of detail is very impressive (doesn't feel like a 'DIY' effort) and you get something like eight variations - tourist, tourist in 'the fall', tourist in fog, tourist online (whatever that is) and VLN versions of all the above.

Unlike the previous version I tried to download this one works perfectly and doesn't appear to have any glitches. You can even explore the roads around the 'ring!

Not sure if it will help my trip out there in a few weeks or not, but it's providing plenty of entertainment in the meantime.

I'm looking forward to that, although I'll wait for a DVD copy of it, I don't like buying stuff I can get elsewhere on steam! wink

It's listed as 'in stock' on amazon.co.uk, although most other places have 12th sept release date scratchchin so I guess it's next friday and amazon is probably wrong...
