GT5 Prologue "GT Academy"

I'm posting on behalf of a mate, who has been playing the online GT Academy challenge on GranTurismo Prologue.
It's the online competition where you have to race a 350Z around the Eiger Norwand. The current leader is completing it in 1.20 or so, and my mate is getting 1.22 (ranked 200-ish), so still a few seconds to be gained somewhere. Is anyone here playing that and have any tips? Current setup is the G25 steering wheel, pedals and gearbox. Any tips on car setup or technique? Heel and toe? Configurations or tips? Top twenty times get a visit to Silverstone, and various tuition, etc.
