Do do do do do do do do dooooo Daytona!
Discussion
15 years ago, I discovered my very first vice, Daytona USA Arcade. The damn thing held a gun to my chest a ran off with well over £100 in the space of a month, the b
d. However, a few days ago, I was directed to a little gaming website, where technowizards are slowly piecing together the old arcade machine's code and have come up with a glorious emulator... that even supports racing wheels, including the G25! Even the force feedback works!

release news and forums for the emulator
However, for the actual game ROM itself, I'm unable to post a link, it's a legal grey area (and not a particularly light grey either). You'll have to look for yourself. Runs a smooth 60fps on my two year old laptop. Anyway, it's not quite perfect, there's an intermittent bug where you occasionally hit an invisible object while, it happens once or twice a race, meaning winning is very incredibly difficult. Apparently it's already been fixed by the emulator author and will be uploaded with the next update.

Can't get Daytona to work, every version I've tried doesn't load. Tried Sega Rally and Touring Cars and yes they are very dated, ok for a 5min nostalgia trip but that's all really for me. After all they are all over 10 years old now.
What's the issue? There were a few hurdles I had to jump to get it to work. -If 20 files are reported missing, put the daytona.zip file in the same folder as the .exe
-If 3 files are reported as missing, you'll need to search for those files online and add them to the zip folder
-If the game starts but there's a network error, you need to switch the machine of to 'single'. This is done by pressing F2 to enter setup mode, then using some keys on the keyboard (I forget which ones, but you can check in control config) you can change it over.
Or, I could just email you the HUGE 14Mb file

Daytona may look s
t compared to today's consoles, but it hasn't lost any of it's charm or gameplay... I've already spent 2 hours on the damn thing. Off topic FWD, but GPL is 10 years old in a 2 or 3 months, wonder if PH should hold an anniversary race.daaaaaaaaaaaaayyytoooooooooooonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
There was a full motion, sit in, 4-cabinet setup at my local arcade, with video cameras pointed at the drivers and TV's mounted above the rear projection screens showing your face while you raced. My mates would never race with me, as at the time they weren't into cars

I'd pumped loads of money into Virtua Racing, Daytona and Sega GT. However, when I got Daytona on the Dreamcast, the game seemed awfully thin to me. Does the G25 really do that much to elevate the experience?
To be honest, the reason why I was so excited about this arcade version was due to the fact that the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast versions of Daytona were absolutely horrible to play. Even with the Sega steering wheel, the handling was totally wrong. This however is 100% authentic... just not 100% legal. Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
