Gran Tourismo - GT Academy Competition
Discussion
Has anyone else signed on for this ?
If you look in the news section of GT Sony/Nissan are running a competition for an opportunity to participate in a real 24 hour race and get your race license!

I've signed up and current my fastest time using the mandatory Nissan Fairlady Z on the twisty alps cirtcuit is 1.24. Fastest so far is 1.20!
Top 20 drivers from each country will be invited to the next round.. so if you can get yourselves into the 1.21's you might be in with a shot.
Its much harder than you think though !!

Gonna have a go, do they have rules as to if you need to use a wheel? or if you need to have certain aids on or off?
IMHO it should be done with a wheel only, manual transmition with no aids (not descriminating agains ill people) and a specific tyre.
with an age limit set it should be a little easier as it narrows the group down especially as i believe you only have to get in the top 20 from Great Britain in the first round.

Still stuck on 1m.24 on the controller.
I can say this for certain :
1)Wheels/pedals will be ultimately faster. You need to be ultra smooth on the throttle/brakes and steering to get a fast time. I tried my wheel on it and i know i could get myself down into the lower times but i need a gamerseat or something. All of my time is lost on getting the power down. The buttons don't allow feathering of the throttle to the same degree as a wheel/pedal combo.
2)You cant mess with the car setup. You get what you are given. The N1 tyres are overwhelmed at most times on the track which is where the skill comes in.
3)Anyone who wants half a chance will go manual anyway i reckon!
Last time i had a crack at the weekend i was 236th or something... i cant see how i can go any faster on a PS3 controller!!
I downloaded and watched the fastest lap and i am pretty sure the guy in question has a proper H-Shift box as he jumps down from 4th straight to 2nd on the first hairpin and he appears to coast which indicates he must also use a clutch pedal of some sort...
