Have any PS3 or '360' games met, or exceeded the simulation levels of the old Geoff Crammond GP3?(GP4 was a bit of a glitchy/crashy disaster on my pc).

GTR and to a lesser extent GT Legends were good too.

I am looking to buy a console primarily for driving sims, but have not heard much enthusiasm on any yet available.

Is GTR available on any console?
Is F1 Championship comparable to Geoff Crammond GP3?

Any advice from other sim fans most welcome.

Thanks

You'll find that the more common interpretation of GTA (especially on here) is Grand Theft Auto. Do you mean GTR?

You're still better off with a PC for sims, the most sim-like console games are Forza, Gran Turismo and Ferrari Challenge, but none of them are really comparable to the PC sims like R-Factor.

Sorry, yes I meant GTR!

Just sick of the unreliability of pc's for gaming, hence wanting to go for a console.

I'm quite intrigued to see what it'll be like for Wii!

Not a patch on the PS3 version is my guess. It seems to get all the poorer versions of multiplatform games which is a bit of a shame, but understandable due to the lack of capability.

I had F1 Career Challenge on PC, but the handling was poor compared to Geoff Crammond games.
No matter what you did to the set up, understeer was dreadful.

Is F1 Championship better?

I expect Ferrari Challenge will be awesome. The original one and the arcade one was. Bloody difficult. I came first. Once. (None of that homo TCS and ABS, mind.)

Oooo great thread thumbup

Used to love Geoff Crammond games, I can't see that he's done ANYTHING for the last 10yrs or so though?!

Anyone remember Stunt Car Racer? That, believe it or not, was a Crammond game and it was bloody superb.

Used to love GP3 and GP4, even with a joystick biggrin

SCR was brilliant, I used to play that on my Amiga, my cousin would bring his round and we'd link them up with a serial cable to race each other - happy days smokin

Ah that explains it. So what do you reckon, any good. I'm hoping its more sim than arcade.

The handling was better than I expected(you have to slow down for bends and everything;)), more Forza2 than grid.
The circuits looked pretty horrible on the build they had there, but i've seen some footage on their site and they look much improved.
The best bit for me was the great rain effects, the whole grid dissapears in spray at times, very atmospheric, oh and also when I was going to overtake the AI car moved over to defend the inside line, which I thought was a nice touch.

lol when i was in the games industry 3 years ago GTR was being touted on the 360 even then.
It depends who does it to be honest otherwise a lot of PC GTR users will be disappointed.

And no offence but the person who suggested NFS, Juiced and Burnout as sim examples need a labotomy.
Your ONLY options are Forza 2 and GT5 on the console....FACT lol

Alas you will never see GTR on the Sexbox... which for me is great as the xbox wheel would not do it justice. For your sim racing needs, you MUST get a PC, doesn't have to be high end but just good enough to do the job. PC's are not that expensive now, look at Mesh, they have some deals for a reasonable spec machine for 600 quid!! £28 a month. I got mine from mesh about 2 and a half years ago for the good side of three grand and even that is old tech now, the £800 machine would probably match it's graphics power.

I do not understand why the Ferrari game is only going to be on PS3 and Wii rather than PC, maybe it is because Simbin have a Ferrari license aswell.

PC sim gaming is a good place right now so i would highly advise you do it, lots to look forward to.

Simbin - GTE Evolution - New GT cars including C6, Koenigsegg, DB9 and the first sim designed Green Mile!! plus mad 600BHP RWD touring cars

Simbin / Blimey - Sweedish Touring cars (i think)

Blimey / Simbin - Ferrari Project - New Lizzard engine i believe

Simbin / Blimey - Project Falcon - Very secret!!

Netkar Pro - Soon to be released new patch and Ossella hill climb including the Ossella car and full 14km Trento Bordone Hill climb course

GTR2 and Rfactor Mods - Too many good ones to name but ProtoC is close, i think it will be released on the weekend of Le Mans, plus a new version of the track to race them on. 80's Touring cars, GP2, F1 Various years.. the list goes on!

GP Gikes - If you like your GP Bikes, this is a great little home made sim which is very well made and in constant development and bloody hard aswell.

Too much to be sitting around playing Prologue
