I started a thread a while ago when Rock Band was priced, and I was outraged at the retail price.
£180, for a game....
But I have found the game and insrtuments pack for £132.98 from play.com
Adding the code 'experience08' that expires at the end of the month for 5% off
I was positive that I would NOT be buying this game due to the pricing, but alas, I have caved.
And £133 is miles better than £180
Anyone else buying this game??

The game is here, the game minus all instruments. I will play it using my guitar hero guitar and use my mates full set when I go to play it over there.
My girlfriends sister is also moving back from the states in October, so if I'm still playing it then (more than likely as Guitar Hero is a regular feature in my DVD drive) I will get her to bring back the full set of instruments for me.

I got an e-mail from Play on Tuesday saying the instruments had shipped and one on Wednesday saying the game had shipped. So far nothing has arrived

I called them this morning, Been waiting forever for this game!apparently they are all getting shipped today in one giant shipment, so it doesn't matter if you ordered it a year ago or yesterday (like me)
Mine went from processing to packing yesterday, and is now back to processing, this is normal said they guy on the other end!
I've taken a half day off tomorrow to accept delivery, and I have a stat day on monday, but fingers crossed I'll get it tomorrow so I can spend all weekend jamming!
Edit: Just logged in and the 'Band in a box' has been posted
but strangely the game is still at processing 
never mind, if I get the instruments without the game, I'll buy another game in the shops and send the play.com one back, no big deal, it's alot easier to send back a DVD sized box!

Apparently my rock band instruments tried to get delivered yesterday!
Even after saying it was only posted yesterday, either it was specially airlifted from play.com, or they sent it out the day I ordered it, either way, top marks!! Still no sign of the game yet, but it will hopefully be sitting on the mat this afternoon.
Parcel force delivered the instruments, they have left it at my local post office only 500m away.
So I've got a half day to pick it up. Even the O/H is getting excited about it (she can't play rhythm games to save herself!)

My thoughts from playing last night (we didn't have the instrument pack, as my mates full box didn't turn up, just my solus copy):
Hard again to formulate much of an opinion as it was just like playing an improved version of Guitar Hero with only 2 guitarists playing.
Things that are better than GH though:
- Your star rating for the song is constantly updated, so you can see how close you are to getting 5 stars with a quick glance.
- Customisation of the characters is great, lots of options to make them your own and every song completed seems to unlock more clothing options.
- Overdrive (the star power equivalent) is better implemented, instead of the notes disappearing once you've activated it (in GH when you activated Star Power you would then lose the chance to collect more star power until it deactivated) you can collect them and they will add to the overdrive bar, so you can drag out the bonus longer provided you hit all the overdrive notes.
- Solo sections, a chance for a bit of showboating, can't wait to try these bits with the Rock Band guitar as you can use the buttons at the base of the neck and just tap away without the need to strum.
- Freestyle jamming, basically an excuse to go mad at the end of certain songs, racking up a nice fat bonus that you have to 'bank' by hitting a few notes after it finishes, the pressure is really on to hit those last few notes and any band member that fails to do so is required by law to be ridiculed.
- The crowd also has a greater effect, when you're all playing in harmony and the crowd is loving the song they will start to sing along, adding a great amount of atmosphere and spurring you on to keep playing well.

Ok, first impressions.
Game: Very well put together, progressive and alot of fun, I like the way you can change the sorting, and use downloaded songs in the career mode.
The songs are fantastic, and its a great party atmosphere.
I love the meter that shows how good you are playing, much more informative than GH's bar, and I like the fact you can see exactly how many stars you have throughout the song. I love it when the crowd sings along and claps in time with the music, I like the character customisation too.
Bad points: the menu system is difficult to navigate with the drums, although you can use normal buttons.
Hardware: This is where the game really let me down, everything worked fantastic with 1 exception, 1 major exception, the guitar doesn't work properly, it will strum up, but not down, which is a great shame since the quality of the other instruments is fantastic, the drums are sturdy and sound, and take my word for it, can take a hell of a beating!! The microphone, although a little small has a decent weight to it and picks up tones well, for me, the guitar felt light, cheap and plasticy, the strum bar had no real 'feel' to it, although this may just be my broken guitar, there is no 'click' noise that you hear in the guitar hero guitar. I like the 2 rows of buttons though.
Customer Services: EA customer services are a bloody joke, on the box I had it said, 'any problems with hardware please contact customer services' So I did and got though to a thick american chap called 'teddy' yes that WAS his name, he seemed to think that I could take back the guitar, JUST the guitar to any UK retailer selling the game for a no quibble return, after arguing for 10 mins with him on how this is a bag of lies he 'informs' me that all UK retailers have been briefed on this returns policy and not to worry, so off I pop down to tesco's (leaving the guitar in the car) and explain the situation, lo and behold I was right, what a crock of s
t 'teddy' just said, so on calling them back I got yet another thick american, this time telling me to take it back to my local walmart, uh, where?? yeah thanks (he told me to 'keep on rockin' when the phone call ended, I replied with, I'll try, but its bloody hard when the guitar is broken, idiot). I contacted play and I need to send back the WHOLE BLOODY LOT to get another guitar, so it will be getting picked up today, cheers EA.
So an easy to digest score for all those who can't be bothered to read the rest...

Yeah, the guitar was a huge disappointment for me. Mine works, but not particularly well. It could just be me getting use to the new strum bar after so long using the GH2 guitar, but I seem to miss note when playing constant rythms where I'm just strumming up and down at a constant rate. It feels filmsy and like it's not going to last too long.
Loving the game though. Not sure if I'm just not that far through yet, or maybe I've just played waaaay too much GH, but it seems pretty easy on guitar. I'm going through on Expert and am yet to get less than 95% or so. Same can't be said for the drums though...I suffer from a severe lack of rythm!

The strum bar is the weakest link on a top package though.
I still have my GH3 guitar.

I have an urge to go out and get the kit right now, but I don't think the old wallet would be speaking very kindly to me thereafter!
