Just got a ps3 last week as I couldnt get gta on the 360 and wanted a PS3 at some point anyway.

Do the bloody updates ever stop?
Ever time I try to play a game some other patch update needs to install. Its worse than a PC.
So far Im not impressed at all. controller is utter ste too.
Hope things get better...

any games I should get specifically for the PS3?

The controller for the Playstation has had the same basic shape for the past 14 years. It ain't broke so Sony haven't fixed it. There is a rumble version called the Dual Shock 3 due soon.

The controller is crap, after comparing with the 360 controller you realise that it's always been broken and really needs fixing. It's too small, too angular, the triggers are terrible, the sticks are in a very awkward position and the d-pad gives you a sore thumb after prolonged use.

just another quick moan...

why are the graphics on GTA so st??

GT5 looks pretty sharp, but GTA looks smeared and fuzzy and the frame rate is utter cack.

Great game, but Im wishing I bought the Xbox version now...I hear its got better graphics.

Christ, I cannot believe so many people waiting so long for the PS3 over the 360. Its alright but certainly not worth waiting a year or whatever it was for it to come out.

Are you running the game via a non HD TV? I had the same issues and, as helpfully pointed out elswhere, if you turn the flicker off on the options menu it improves the clarity of the graphics a fair bit.

Yes I am!! Might give that a go...
cheers.

Oh Is that flicker switch in the in game option menu or the main PS3 settings menu?

I bowed out of this debate earlier, but after watching the comparison video, couldnt fathom why the 360 was voted the better version. imho, the PS3's graphics (in the half dozen side by side videos) were cleaner, clearer and brighter (better) in two thirds of the clips they showed, yet the 360 was voted the better version... confused

Equally, I found the PS3 controller far nicer to use.
And Ive got fairly big hands...
(you know what that means, ladies)

yes
Its easier for developers to patch existing code pack updates, than write dozens of patches which update the original code for the benefit of newbies who just joined the PS3 crew. The updates will slow down.

Another reason for all the updates, is Sony mistakenly hired a former Microsoft employee who worked on the 360, and he cocked it all upwink

looks like the flicker setting is for SDTVS only meaning HDTV owners are stuck with the blur and cack frame rate....

Still a great game, but maybe Ive been spoiled playing Crysis on the PC for the last couple of weeks.

Cack frame rate? Are you playing a different game to the rest of us?

To be honest, if anyone can honestly say there's much of a difference between the 360 and PS3 graphics I think you're barking up the wrong tree... the difference is so minimal, if any that its not worth arguing over

As for the controller, seeing as though it hasn't changed much over the past few generations I would expect you knew what it was like before you bought it? I prefer the PS3 version as its compact and light. I don't think there's any point in arguing over controllers either - you prefer what you prefer.

GTA graphics are a lot more complex (more buildings visible, much greater draw distances, loads of animated pedestrians, real time shadows, etc). I've seen both (360 & PS3) versions side by side and cannot see any real difference, anyone saying otherwise is talking out of their arse. smile

be honest the frame rate is cack..Look at COD4 if you want to see a decent frame rate. GTA is.fine when you are milling round or walking, but the minute any real action starts especially with cars its starts chugging. ...unless my settings are wrong?

Im not saying there is an difference in the two versions. but its been mentioned in some reviews.....so I was just wondering if anyone had it on both machines?
re.controller had a ps2 few years back and thought they might have developed it slightly for those of us with normal size hands.
Honestly not meaning to turn this into some fanboy ps3 vs 360 argument, but now having owned both, I cannot understand why so many denied themselves so long
a next gen console to wait for a PS3, when clearly it is not any better...not even in the slightest.

Agreed, sorry but GT5 is still the only reason to buy a PS3 IMO

I haven't noticed any frame rate slow down playing GTA4... maybe once or twice in about 12 hours playing time, but thats no more or less than COD4. The graphics overall in COD4 are better yes, but then again there isn't a million and one things going on as there is in GTA4.. IMO considering the overall quality of GTA4, and the depth of field, I was quite suprised at the decent frame rate - as I said I haven't got anything to complain about re the frame rate.

about the specific games you should buy for the ps3... uncharted drakes fortune has gotta be one, and for the games that are coming out this year JUST for the ps3 include: metal gear solid, haze, killzone 2,eight days and alot of other exclusives.. your frame rate argument is a load of rubbish as it's only happening to you and maybe you should splash out on a HD TV and then see if the graphics are still ste.
oh, and the xbox doesn't have better graphics.
