GTA IV - Controversial thread alert...

OK,
i've had it a few days now, and i cant get into it, dont know why, but it just seems a bit, well same old same old.

OK OK, its better game graphices etc, but its really the same old format, do jobs/tasks, roam around and collect things.

I dunno, maybe because of the hype i was expecting a lot more, and it to be a lot different.

Anyone else feeling the same ?

TBH, that was all it was ever going to be. It was just the constant refinement of the game which kept it fresh and the sheer size of the map to explore in San Andreas.

Won't stop me buying it when/if it makes it to the PC.

After playing it for an hour i thought the story was slow to get going. The story is now really starting to pick up and i'm enjoying finding out the next chapter in Nikos life.

I haven't even started multiplayer yet as i want to try and open up as much of the city as i can in single player.

Ohh, and not another GTA thread, they're getting difficult to keep up with.

Tim - you can choose multiplayer setups that keep you on the island from the beginning, so as not to spoil the single player. I've pretty much stayed in Broker.

The only thing that's bugging me about the singleplayer game is the lack of weapons, so I'm just trying to move the story on as fast as possible so I can get my hands on some and get the other islands opened up.

Have you tried the multiplayer?

Got it on Tuesday. Have played for a total of 10 mins and for some reason don't feel compelled to sit down for a big session on it. Might give it another go tonight, or alternatively wait till the weekend as think that getting home from work and trying to force myself to play it when I'm knackered isn't endearing me to it.

While I don't think it's rubbish I'm not blown away by it, and I don't believe it lives up to the hype or deserves all the 10/10 ratings it's getting everywhere.

At the start it did just feel like GTA3 with better graphics/physics, but once you get into it and all the new details show through, you can appreciate how much they have improved on the previous incarnations. However, I still think that besides the next gen graphics and detail, the game is behind San Andreas in quite a few aspects, seems like one step forward and two steps back.

I'm not even 50% through the game yet though, so I'm hoping my view will change when I'm finished.

At the end of the day, GTA IV is an advancement of the genre - and I did find the story slow going in the beginning, but its much deeper than previous games and gives Nico real depth.

I've always found myself initially underwhelmed with the GTA series. They are massive games, with so much detail, but sometimes difficult to get into.

I do however think they are more often 'long termers' and they mature into fantastic games.
