GTA4 Game save problems - Help!!!

I can't get my 360 to save games in GTA4.
I've tried removing/refitting the hard disc and also added a memory card just to be sure.

Looks like it is not recognising your hard drive.
Do other games save ok? Do you have another hard drive from a friend you could try?

Other games save fine, i'm going to try another GTA disc tonight.
Not sure what to do if that doesn't work.

Ok, looks like a faulty console.
All other games work fine but if you try to change the storage device in any of them then a similar message appears.
Also, if I try to change the storage location of stuff downloaded from Marketplace I just get a beep and nothing happens.

Not best pleased as I only bought this one a month ago as it had HDMI and was supposed to be a little quieter, my old Xbox will be making a comeback I feel and i'll probably just Ebay this one when it returns from repair

Try formatting the drive if possible - obviously it would mean losing your data. Or maybe borrow someone else drive and try it then.

Took it back and bought another console - this one is working fine.
Found some good stuff on the xbox.com support site which pretty much pointed to a faulty console in the end.
