Recommend me a PC game...

Right, I'm looking for a new game that I can play against (or collaborate with) others online, a bit like WoW or Eve but without a monthly sub. Something that as you play it, your character/ship/account improves. Oh, and it has to run on a 3 year old PC so nothing modern. Have played Diablo 1 and 2 to death.

Suggestions?

If you're a Diablo 2 fan (like myself) then you will love WoW. It's a bit slower than Diablo though, but much the same in many respect and much better thought out.

It takes a long time before most features become unlocked, at the highest level the game feels a lot more diablo like.

Another game i would like to try is Hellgate:London (made by the same Diablo2 developers)...

Just go back and play Diablo 2 again. I'm sure there is a character / build that you haven't done on Classic Hardcore to keep you going.
I must of put a total of 500 hours of gameplay in total into that game!

Managed to get a trial of Freelancer so will play that a while.

Even demo BF2 has ranks! Can only get first row of unlocks, though, but from what I gather, they are the best...

Never had the courage myself

(I did have several matriachs/patriach characters which will give you a hint of how much time i wasted on this piece of electronic crack cocaine)

You can also download mods to the game - new weapons and features. Not tried any myself, too much time on WoW.

Freelancer is interesting. Combat reminds me of the battles in the Battlestar Gallactica series. Visiting shops is tedious, though. The cut-scenes slow the game down a lot. Oh, and going up to someone and asking, "You got anything for me?" doesn't get you friendly advice where I come from.
