Xbox live-Help!

Hi there,
recently i have been trying to connect to xbox live. I have a laptop with vista with a vodafone mobile 3G dongle. I have searched google and the voadafone help center says i need a Ethernet cable to connect to the laptop. I have a yellow Ethernet cable running from the 360 to the laptop, but when i test the connection it says the cable is wired but no ip address can be found if i enter it manually it still won't work. Does anyone no what the problem is if so could they please help.

Is it a crossover eithernet cable rather than a "normal" one?

I thought the Xbox should be happy with either cable (unless it is only the case in 'system link' i.e. Xbox to Xbox)

Quite often, you can have trouble 'seeing' other things on a network when you are running a firewall program, so if you are 'safe' (i.e. not connected 'directly' to the internet) - try disabling the Microsoft firewall and any other software firewalls you have running.

I've never used one of these 3G cards, but I suspect you need to turn on internet connection sharing for the Vodafone connection.

Thanks for all the advice but my problem seems to be i cant figure out how to ics on the vista system.

Dunno whether a 3G card would work properly with Live. IIRC 3G connections have a high ping rate which will make for a crap Live experience.

I'd give up on that idea if I were you, those cards are crap.

Connection sharing is what you want, but I don't know how do do it in Vista.

The 3G will be marginally ok for downloading stuff - although it may breach your monthly limits pretty quickly. It will be utterly appalling for online play, and I personally wouldn't even try it.
