A report on IGN I read over lunch suggested that it was due for release late tonight/early Friday. They're waiting for the MS certification process to be completed, apparently.

CoD 4 Map pack delayed until April 10

The CoD4 map pack which was scheduled to be released this week has been delayed until April 10. The PS3 version of the map packs won't be available until 3 weeks after the Xbox version is released.

Just read this on maxconsole.

So how will that affect multi-player? If you are in a private lobby and someone picks a map you don't have? Would you just be booted.

I'm surprised they will be charging for a few maps frown

It will probably wont let the host launch, saying all players dont have the map.

This is a bit of a pisstake. I won't be buying them now for a long time. I would have had em tomorrow or tonight but another week means its too close to GTA for me to spend time on them. Every penny counts at the minute for me, and £6 for just 4 maps is a bit rich.

I think it will rather be coded to kick those players without the map and let everyone else continue.

Reason being that when in a ranked match not even the selected host can kick a player, so if someone joins without the maps they would effectivly stop the whole room from playing until they chose to leave. Bad idea considering the type of children who seem to play these days, that would turn into a very silly game.

As for the moans about them charging... same old same old. The company staff don't work for free and these maps will have been created in company time. So they company would have had to pay the staff to do the work, so the company has to charge the end user. It is an arguement that will run and run. And the cries of "I've already bought the game" are totally mute too. Yes, you already bought the game, and what you paid for you already have. This is extra content over and above and not listed in your existing game manual as part of the game. So it's not part of what you paid for.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy the maps.

Of course, maybe they should just give the games away in the first place? That would be much easier wouldnt it rolleyes

Do you have to go on xbox live to use them or can you use them in standard offline multiplayer mode?

True, but I think that there is doubt with some publishers that the development is done with the original game and held back to release later.

Free computer games? Not that crazy. Would you accept a game free of charge if in return you agreed to have advertising updated daily in the games? Young men are now the hardest people to reach as they play more games than watch TV, read etc etc and advertisers want to overcome that.

The doubt about when the content is created is only on fan sites. I have never heard official comment from anywhere that games are deliberately split up to make more money. Thats just fan speak on forums, always from someone who claims to "have a mate who knows someone whos mates with someone who actually works with the girlfriend of someone who gets his hair cut by the girl who dates one of the developers". Utter tosh in my opinion. The same utter tosh that always appears round about the same time they reveal the price funnily enough.
Have game companies got plans on paper about what extra content they could provide if the game is a success on the market? Yeah, I'm sure they have. Have they already created the content and then removed it from the game? No, and I would put money on that.

Turn10 have even stated on record that DLC for Forza2 actually costs them money. Read their own webiste, the only reason they can do it is because they can swallow some of the costs into the development costs of Forza3. If Forza3 was not currently in development then DLC for Forza2 would be twice the cost. And this is all new content, not held back content (the Masertai GT and 997 GT2 were not even anounced when the original game went gold for example).

But like I said, its a round and round arguement. Those who dont mind supporting the games they enjoy dont mind paying if the content is good and those who always want something for nothing will always bh and moan. Fact of life.
I have had more use out of Forza2 and COD4 than any other 360 game, with that in mind anything that extends that enjoyment further is worth a little extra outlay IMHO. Forza is hugely enhanced for me by the extra choice of cars and tracks. COD4 with new fresh maps will be the same (and Creek looks stunning and is apparently pretty huge).

So free game with constant adverts of pay and get no adverts at alle? Well I would rather pay to be perfect honest as I cannot stand normal TV for the simple fact that I hate adverts. Having built in adverts would simply detract from my enjoyment.

(Not aiming the utter tosh comment at you by the way).

Rainbow Six Vegas had adverts in it but I would only agree for adverts to subsidise the game cost is if they were relevant to the game and in natural places e.g. Forza billboards, cars and parts.

Civ - Was not aiming comments at Turn 10 at all. I will happily pay for their offeringssmile
But its not just fan sites of particular titles that support the theory of some publishers ripping us off. You can see content in preview shots, videos, magazine comment etc that does not turn up in the full game only to then appear in chargeable add-ons or the next title. Test Drive Unlimited showed cars that didnt appear in the final game but could be downloaded later. Rainbox Vegas 2 is the same bloody game with new maps, the same music etc.

Dont underestimate what advertisers will do, not saying MS would allow it but its possible for advertisers to target the banner adverts on a racetrack in Forza to the type of games you play, type of cars you like, type of films you watch...scary!!

Anyway, back on topic. Cant wait to download the COD4 DLC and then...wait a minute...£6yikes fk offhehe I'm off to scrounge some lunch...

Anyone wanna donate to the Polarbear Benevolent fund?

You know, the one where the bloke is a student with a Clio 182 and can't afford to pay £6 for some maps?
