the 40gb version is good enough for a normal person rather than a 'gamer' right? i can still use it as a bluray and still go on the internet to race nerds - right?

i am home alone this weekend and thought i might just try and buy one from hmv tomorrow..

I'm thinking the same thing. I only bought a PS2 for GT4. £299, is that too dear?

No you buy a Xbox 360 and PGR4. The pistonheads clan is much larger with the 360 than PS3. It's much better killing/beating someone who you reckognise from here on-line.

You're home alone for an entire weekend and you have the audacity to accuse other people of being nerds?

Anyway... PS3 = Cheap Blu-Ray and occasional games machine so I would say do it. I'll certainly be doing the same.

You won't have any probs there!

(Slight thread hijack)

What's the deal with Prologue? As I understand it's a taster of the full game due out later at a reduced price. Will there be a discount on the full game if you have this one or a guarenteed trade in value, or will they just bend you over and spank you again?

I purchased last week a 40gb one, I am a 'soft user' and its been awesome, strangely enough though, my girlfriend (of all people) pre ordered GT5 Prologue as a gift for Valentines day (obviously still waiting with baited breath to receive it) either she doesn't want to spend time with me (I'll be 'down periscope' for a month when it arrives!) or she is genuinely the perfect girl! smile

Having said that, she's quite excited about getting it too.... the game that is wink

re the PS3, i am very tempted myself as the price isnt too bad, but think ill stick the money to one side for a while and then sink it into cars instead smile

I'm in the same quandry, dunno whether to wait for the full fat GT5 and then see if a 80Gb or even 120Gb normal PS3 becomes available (80 out now in the US, 120 rumoured) or if the rumoured slim one launches by then.

In reality I'll probably end up buying the GT5 Prologue pack though.

Can you retro-fit a larger HD into a PS3?

On the subject of PS3 Vs The Breeze Block X-Box 360 - my mate has just traded his Breeze Block X-Box 360 in for a PS3 and has not stopped going on about how much better it is. The PS3 is easier to get online as well.

P.S. Hold tight for the move!

Its a taster yes and there wasnt a discount with GT4 Prologue or certaintly not initially though some dealers may run promos.

Yes, unlike the XBox. There are even instructions in the manual showing how to do it.

What actually gets stored to the hard disk on a PS3?

I'd suggest Forza 2 and an xbox Elite to be honest. Live is great for finding your friends and I couldn't fault it. Had a PS2 before this with GT4 and Forza in my humble opinion is the better game, single player and online-wise. Can't fault it.

Some game data(not much), some is used for cache for games, game updates, save positions, downloaded games, stuff like that.
You can obviously copy whatever media files you like on to it. Without copying media to it directly (I stream to it instead), you'll struggle to fill 40Gb.

Its worth noting also that the PS3 Bluray player is exceptional in its own right (massively over specced in fact, massively) but not only that, its also a very good upscaler.

i didn't accuse anyone of anything. being a nerd is fine by me. better than being someone who spends credit in Boujis... wink
