Xbox 360 Ring of Death BS

what is the ring of death..

i unplugged my 360 for the first time last night and re plugged it back in.. then i turned it on and had the ring of death.. now having set aside the WHOLE night while the missus was out it fked me off but i unpluged it from the mains and re-seated the power cable in the back of the 360 and it works fine..

is my 360's time going to end soon? it was bought at christmas

Was it the 3 quadrant deal, or a different one? Mine showed the 2 left ones, indicating internal overheat (but then spat the disc out and the tray stuck). I suspect that it was fine other than the tray, in that xbl and demos still worked, and the chat functions were all fine.

It's probably fine. Just check the cables are properly seated.

IIRC the red lights of death indicates video failure, but i'm sure I had the same from a loose cable.

Sorry but it could be the begining of the end, i got three red lights, left for a day, then it worked for a couple of days before it died. Sent it back, came back repaired FOC, it been cool since.

I Do hope yours will be ok, but its not the end of the world just send it back if it dies, or try taking back to the shop if you only got it at xmas.

Does sound suspiciously like you've simply not plugged the cables in tight enough at the back.

Im now on my third console thanx to rrod and this one about a month after i got it (good old gamestation swapped it for me) also rrod'd, all i did was turn it off sigh and turned it on again just to check....that was about 4-5 months ago if not more and its been running fine since then.

NO it doesnt.

Its a general hardware error. Could be almost anything. Can happen once and never again, or could mean a dead box. Looks like the OP's box is ok for now.

When you have the 3 red lights showing, you can find out what the problem is.

By holding the sync button and then pressing the eject button it will show a number of lights, press again etc to get a 4 digits code. there are loads of links on the net that will tell you what that code is.
