Firstly, I thought it was a great game - Halo meets Oblivion, a great story - a touch heavy in dialogue, though some of the random comments in a lift from your team mates are the funniest.

However, I was a little dissapointed I had finished it in only 25 hours - and thats with doing all the side quests I could find (though granted I didnt get the 'majority completed' achievement) since I got 4 times the play out of Oblivion.

So, my question is - is it worth starting another game and playing differently (pretty much went the paragon route), while i accept the base story will be the same, I was wondering if anyone had started again and would reckon it was worth it?

If you are into achievement points, then it's worth another crack I guess.

I completed it a few times, certainly worth doing on a harder difficulty.

You get a special background specific mission, depending on the history of your character too. You can take your current character with you (same level) or create a new for the replay. Also a lot of side missions can play differently if your switching to renegade or sometimes if you have a relevant squad mate with you. There is a also a lesbian love plot to pursue as well biggrin

huh - i was going to make a new character - but i'd be curious about doing it again with the same one (you keep the equipment as well as the level?) - my only issue is that i was a solider/shock trooper and fancied trying the whole tech/biotic thing?

It's up to you if you bring an existing high lvl character or make a new one. I think you keep all equipment IIRC*, although all you squad mates will have all their points unassigned which can be fun when they enter your party at lvl 50.

Personally, i'd try new class types like the tech/bio thing first.

  • = actually i remember this being bugged, if you have 150 items in your inventory when you complete, all your squad mates equipped stuff, which doesn't count as being in the inventory, gets added back to your inventory. I found myself having 180 or so items when I started a new game.

hmmm... curious...

I have to admit, after hearing about keeping the levels i'd be tempted to go in and try the renegade with my existing character, then maybe a 3rd with a new one...

I've played it though twice - the first time, completing the majority of the side quests, took me around 35 hours. The second time, using the same character but going for Renegade points this time and using different team mates, took only 10 hours or so, mainly because I just clicked through the dialogue and didn't do so many side quests.

You do keep all your equipment which means that, even playing it on the unlocked harder mode, it's still not especially difficult. Whether it gets markedly harder on Insane, which you unlock when you complete it for the second time, I don't know.

The completist in me wants the achievement for getting to Level 60 but I'm not sure I can bothered to play it through again for a third time with the same character. I'm Level 58, about 50,000 XP from Level 59, and I'm guessing it's about 200,000 to get from 59 to 60.

I think I'll leave it for a month or two then come back to it and play through again with a Tech/Biotic character to get those class-specific achievements that my Soldier couldn't get.

I'm hacking through again with a bad ass biotic bint. It's quite amusing to not have to be nice to people...

yeah - i played the prologue and found it quite funny to hit a survivor over the head because he was irritating hehe not to mention telling most people to go themselves whenever the opportunity arises! smile

Saw this thread about Mass Effect - thought i might as well post my question here instead of making a new thread. Hope you dont mind! thumbup

I have been thinking about buying Mass Effect but didnt really know whether its for me.

I do not like all guns blazing fighting 24/7 games - I dont like really structured games where eveything has to be done a certain way - I dont like long boring parts of nothingness and I dont like games where they make certain parts of the game annoyingly difficult so it makes you give up before the end.

Now, does any of the above fit Mass Effect?? I have read a review which says that it could do with a few more checkpoints as you have to keep manually saving otherwise you can be playing for an hour and then lose everything if you die before reaching the next level.

Are there any other bad points about the game???

I like most games but there are only a few that really make me want to keep playing - being female I get bored quickly wink

to be honest Mrs NutSquash - i'd say Oblivion would be more up your street than Mass Effect.

You do spend a lot of time shooting in ME - and while overall it isnt 'structured' you do generally follow linear paths for everything you investigate.

You might enjoy it, but from your description i think it'd be a risk.

If you were thinking about picking it up, I'd suggest that it's the sort of game that would be found used in the usual sorts of shops pretty cheaply in a couple of months.

Gamestation have it for around £20 in their sales IIRC.

The game obviously follows a fairly linear plot, but you have total freedom to tackle any/all of the side quests in whatever order. Some only openup later in the game, but I found myself stumbling onto some whilst exploring...

The difficulty isn't that difficult TBH. The later in the game you get, the more powerful you are and so I think it balances.

It is very dialogue heavy though and the actual gameplay is fairly repetitive. You play it for the storyline and to soak up the Mass Effect universe.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to ressurect the topic.

Mrs NucSquash got this last week and is loving it, but she's got stuck on the Find Liara T'Soni - Surface mission, when some big beastie is dropped off and loads of geth start shooting. She gets killed pretty swiftly. She's an infiltrator, i can only think to leg it back to cover, but wondering if anyone has some advice.

Cheers

Get back behind cover and make sure your shields are always charged up before popping out to shoot, obviously prioritise the targets so you take out anyone who tries to move in on your position, but for the most part they should stay in one position and wait for you to come to them.

erm, trying to rack my brains as its been a while...

if its the the big 3 legged geth thing, i tended to find the best thing to do was to find a rock outcropping to pop out from behind, shoot a rocket (assuming your in the mako) then pull back behind - wait for the shot to hit the rock/fly past then pop out again and have another shot.

A few on target shots will do it (unless your on foot - in which case spend a while doing it - or use overload or something?)

Don't forget that the Mako has a zoom x2 by pressing the right thumb button. I hold really really far back and hit it with the right shoulder button for the big rocket.

You get to see the enemy fire coming a mile off and you can easily clear the area before going in.

Re fighting on foot, I targeted all the fir on one enemy at a time (right D pad) and used cover.

I finally took the plunge and ordered this online today via pcworld for 29.99 delivered, have been watching gamestation for them having it back in stock as the 18.98 pricetag there looked great, but in 2 weeks it's constantly been out of stock...so with the UK VAT man finally agreeing to give me a NT tax code and let me stop paying tax it means I have a nice healthy rebate next month from May last year to present coming my way biggrin

I found a hack to kill the shields followed by an assault rifle overkill dealt with it pretty well. However, I'm now there on hard with a Biotic main character, and it's somewhat tricky this time around.

If it hits you once with the big plasma bolt thing, you die.
