Please help me out - I cannot seem to download the update onto my PSP via the USB cable. Can someone, preferably not in too much boffin speak, talk me through it.

Cheers and beers.

I may be wrong, but........... it`s not a good idea to upgrade as you will be unable to run "backup" games through an emulator.

Stands back an waits to be shot down........

Do you know anyone with a wireless connection? I do mine over that as it is very easy. I have never done it over the USB connection. Is it in the manual?

I did the 2.6 over wireless, but the 1.5 via USB. There were some directories you had to create to map it correctly, will see if I can find the notes on it.

If i were you i would leave the updates until you really have to update. I doubt there is anything in 2.6 that will change your life

Agree that it probably isn't worth doing. If it is required to run any specific games then it will come on that game UMD, but until then I would leave it if I were you. In fact, downgrade it to 1.50, much more fun.

Ahhh, too late. Why would I not want to upgrade, and why, pray tell is v1.50 more fun?

IF it aint broke dont fix it. I bet that upgrade is nothing more than comsetic update....

1.50 can be better for some people that like to use emulators although i dont rate the psp versions that highly at the minute - too many bugs and slow gameplay. Also as nevin said in the other thread - you can brick your psp if you get a dodgy downgrader as every spotty little git out there is trying to make one and be the hero.

I'd leave it alone until the games force you to update. Then the game will do it all for you anyway.

Agree with lockstock2sb. Leave it alone just now and when you need to upgrade the game will do it for you.

1.50 is more fun if you know what you are doing and like tinkering around with the internals of the machine, running emulation software, homebrew software etc (and pirate games ). However, I wouldn't bother downgrading unless you are confident you know what you are doing, have reliable software and can afford to lose £180.

You need to have the battery fully charged and mains adaptor connected then follow the instructions as per this site (which also gives info on what the update includes);

www.us.playstation.com/psp.aspx?id=SoftwareUpdate

If you need to update to play a game then the game will have the update on the disk, some have an update on the disk even if you don't need it.

Reccomend you don't go above ver 2.0 if possible, AFAIK all games will run on ver 2.0
