Xbox 360 - What a let down....
Discussion
Got my Core 360, hard drive, headset and PGR3.
Backwards Compatibility - Doesn't even play PGR2 !!
Graphics - If you haven't got an HDTV, don't be expecting a great difference.
Gameplay - IMO, PGR2 takes the prize over PGR3 for single player.
Loading Times - takes even longer than the original Xbox for PGR3.
Xbox Live - This is the bit that got me the most, unpacked headset and it doesn't work, move the joypad and the wire crackles, makes everybody else in the room just hear static, which has lead to me being kicked from various rooms. Tried with no headset but as usual, no headset, get kicked Tried to get a replacement and not one shop I tried are getting any till after Xmas, GREAT, no live till next year !! Called Microsoft, they just say they will call back and never bother !!
Seriously considering putting it on ebay and getting one next year when the price goes down, if I can't play live till then, what was the point of paying the premium !!
Overall - My whole experience has been a MASSIVE anti-climax, I was back playing the original Xbox with my mates on live within 2 hours of switching the 360 on !!
Oh yeah, it has already frozen on me whilst loading a track on Gotham.
Gutted
Just a quick bit about the 'reality' of the car sounds, I have been in the Aston Pit when DBR9 has refuelled and heard it going around track and after playing it on PGR3 I can confidentally say it sounds NOTHING like it !!
I cannot say for sure without hearing the rest of the cars from PGR3 in 'real life' whether they are correct or not, but going on DBR9, I would say not !!

Rented out COD2 this afternoon, slight redemption for 360
STILL no call back form Microsoft on the headset !!
They said they had some in stock for such an event so I should have no problem getting one. It's just the wait that is killing me, got to wait till next Friday now for a Live session......if it turns up that is
I have tried 5 shops, a few inetnet sites and nobody has any headsets on wireless controllers in stock !!
Loads of rechargeable packs for the wireless controllers but no controllers themselves ???
Brian, don't listen to them, you keep on "yanking" mate

Yup, I'm also disappointed with mine - the console gets very hot, and sounds too loud. Loading times in PGR3 are too long. Halo 2 runs too slowly to use, etc.
The controllers are great, the dashboard is much improved.
COD2 is great, Quake 4 is okay, PGR3 is impressive, but not significantly superior to PGR2.
Evolution, not revolution.

In my opinion, the graphics are simply unreal! Far better than I had hoped
THEN... Late last night I discovered that the system wasnt even set up to work with my HDTV telly (which is actually a widescreen monitor). Cranked up the definition and was blown away all over again!
Why not sell it? You'll make plenty of money. Stick £300 aside for next year, and enjoy the extra spending money on other things this xmas, sorted.

Out of interest what the Xbox 360 got that a normal home comuter hasn't. It certainly has a lot of hype in the shops, but does anyone know what the actual PC spec inside is?
I am sure someone will correct me, but its actually moving away from a standard PC architecture - even more so than the previous Xbox. Its got a three core PowerPC CPU running at 3.2Ghz with a custom ATI graphics chip (based on the R520 i understand). So not Intel based and not running a standard graphics card... you cant run Windows on it (yet....!)

Something like 3 3ghz processors, but its hard to compare even if you do know the spec, its a box of custom graphics chips and tricks at the end of the day.

I did hear it was motorola based, but assume microsoft had fairly strong links with intel/AMD so thought it was unlikely as a bit of a departure?
I have Quake4 running on a PC at 120fps, with an 3.8 athlon64 and an Nvidia 6800GT. So not cutting edge, but I wondered just how much more you would want from an Xbox than that?
I remember the days of 8086, to 80286/386 etc but the quantum jumps in performance each time have been lost of recent years when a big new shiny computer means only abuot 10% extra speed. I just wonder how much of a quantum jump the Xbox is compared to PC land? I was never very impressed with the PS2 as it looked slower and worse graphics then my PC but maybe the Xbox 360 is a quantum jump?
