Im sure I posted this, but cant for the life of me find it

Driving games in general: Who plays from behind the car VS the in-car dashboard views? I've always preferd the better visability from behind the car but you seem to be able to follow the racing line better from in-car, which seems to shave seconds off lap times when you know the track.

Well as I don't tend to drive my real car while sitting on a mast 20 feet in the air behind it, I use the in-car views
Not sure how you can get a feel for the handling when driving 'outside' the car

In-car. Sometimes, I use the bonnet view, especially for right-hand drive vehicles.

Come on chaps, Id be very interested to see how many of you follow the racing line from inside the car VS those who always watch from an outside-car perspective, when given the chance.

In car. Outside if I'm planning to crash and want to see it

Outside. I wish I could do the incar view but I seem to be on average 3 seconds a lap slower.

I use the 'sitting on the bonnet' view

Cockpit tends to use loads of FPS

speaking as a PC sim type... always from inside the cockpit... not veyr many console games even have this view. If it doesn't exist I use the bonnet one. If that doesn't exist (like on bloddy PGR and PGR2!) I have to use the disembodied weirdo view! eurgh.

I always drive using the cockpit view if a game has it.

Bumper cam for me always I feel hemmed in in a cockpit view, probably because it hasn't got anything like the visibility of real life.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with this statement. If I start playing a game, I will sometimes use the behind car view to learn a track or see how the car behaves, but as quickly as possible will go to Bumper Cam mode for more realism and faster laps...

Unless you are playing games like TOCA Race Driver or Burnout where the destruction of the cars can only be appreciated with an outside view!!

Ive always preferred the outside view, but after trying the inside view (I actually use bumper cam) control seems that much better.

Uh, yes you can.

It may not have a dash showwing, but its still in-car and the only view I use.

I always find myself overcorrecting, then overcorrecting again, and again etc... every time I use the rear chase view. I can't drive or control the car using it, whether it's on a console or not.

In-car cockpit view is the only way to go, except if the game doesn't have it. Then I use the bonnet view. And if it doesn't have that, it goes back to the shop!

Learning tracks - chasecam, a problem with lots of the new games is the amount of crap they put on the sides of the tracks so it's really difficult to pick out where the corners are, especially on city tracks.
Racing - bumpercam, easier to pick out lines and feels much quicker
