I was reading EVO mag today and the bloke said that he had 'practised' the nurburgring using a PS2. If this is possible I wouldn't mind getting one.
Can you get this kind of 'game'? Or maybe for other circuits.

Toca race driver games have the uk circuits, GTR and GT legends also feature quite a few.

Gran Turismo 4, Project Gotham 2 & 3, Forza Motorsport, GT Legends all feature the Nurburgring for your practicing pleasure.

groucho, you don't realise what you're missing out on!

For example, GT4 features over 700 cars and loads of tracks (unfortunately no UK ones). Graphics are brilliant. You can even have a Griffith 500 in red as one of your cars if you wish.

Indulge.

Some will be th eold circuit and some will be the new one though. GT4 has the old one.

As soon as I got GTR and then GTL I stopped playing GT4 because it's too arcady and not even in the same league as the other two. Might be useful for learning circuits though I guess.

Cheers guys. It looks as though I've got some entertainment coming. I'm definitely going to get one, which is best PS2 or Xbox?
I've never played a computer game (is that what they're called?) in my life.

Got any links to these games please? I don't know what I'm looking for.

Will GTR play on PS2 or Xbox? I only seem to find it for PC. And I can't even find GTL.

GTR and GTL (GT Legends might do better in google) are PC games. They are much more realistic and teach you a bit more about driving racing cars. (neither has the nurburgring nordschleife)

Of the other games, Project Gotham is on the Xbox and GT4 on the PS2. GT4 is supposed to have the more accurate version of the nordschleife. Both of these games have, er... lower resolution physics

I don't think my computer would play them very well. It's a few years old now and running win 2000.

fair enough the console ones are still fun! I really like PGR2 but haven't really played GT4 at all.

Grand Prix Legends it is then.

The cars sounds like cars (not like washing machines on GT4), oversteer like cars (unlike most cars in GT4) and its miles more fun

PGR2 is miles more fun that GT4.

Or you could wait for XBox360 and get PGR3. Should be good.

Personally I'd buy a new PC, wheels and pedals, and a copy of GT Legends.

Are the PC games better quality than the console games, then?

The only way to turn GT4 into the simulation it was meant to be, is to put N1 or N2 tyres on the road cars (they're free),and turn all driving aids off. Polyphony were originally going to make this the default setting, but chickened out.. The car handling is transformed and lack of oversteer will not be an issue!
