seeing as I'll be around for this Crimbo, I was wondering if anyone else fancied doing an enduro style event over the Christmas period, or a set number of sprint races = a mini championship, over say, a three hour period?

Boxing day or something....duno probably a stupid idea

winner gets mince pies n milk

thoughts........

That would be cool but I don't have my steering wheel or GTL at home for christmas I might look like a bit of a wally with a steering wheel on the train

excellent idea though.

What about a "proper" race this weekend too? (off topic already)

Not sure I'll be able to make Crimbo, especially not boxing day, but definitely up for a good long "proper" race any time! Enduro sounds great

...except this weekend because I'm away

Thinking about it, it'll have to be a mid-week job for me to be able to make it - I'm away or busy every weekend from now until Christmas!

Not sure i'd be able to make boxing day but i'd be up for a race monday or tuesday though, both bank holidays so i don't have to work.

big session sounds good, whether it be a single 3hr race or (say) 3x30 minute races + qualy and practice i leave up to others.

Personal preference, assuming I can make it, would be for one properly long race, but if we're calling a 30 min race a sprint, I can live with a few of them.

5 and 10-lappers, particularly around Mickey Mouse 50-second lap circuits are... well let's just say they're all over a bit quickly for me...

This is one of my pet hates - while restricting to, say, the minis around mondello short or somewhere equally driftable - which is an absolute hoot - it does get annoying only racing for 3 laps!

I'd like to do some 20/30 lap races where some good racing/tusslilng/rubbin' can be had

On reflection... I cant do Boxing day either, forgot we had something organised

so any of the days in between I guess, maybe the Tuesday? as someone said, its a bank holiday anyway.....

seeing as there is quite a few of us interested, lets have a vote on:

i) 5 races of 10-15 laps or 1 race of 1 hour equivalent (however many laps)

ii) 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th choice of track, (this will then work for whichever format we go for)

iii) class of car

I'll post my votes up when i've had a chance to think about it...

I'd vote for 5 x 15 lappers.

We qualify for the first race, but each subsequent race we start in the reverse of the finish, ie last place starts on pole for the next race.

Usual points system and the winner after 5 races is crowned Piston Claus for a year

Day after boxing day suits me

ok

i.) 1 Race of 1 hour preferred, or two races of 30mins
ii.) don't care, don't really know any of the tracks that well.
iii.) 60's GTC cars.

Predictably enough...

i.) One race of 1 hour preferred, or one of 2 hours
ii.) I'll get back to you on that, but probably Spa first. A Long race needs a long track.
iii.) I'll get back to you on that too.

Edited to add: If we're going to do 15-lappers, can we do them at Spa?

I think longer races in the minis at short tracks would be good too - they give excellent racing.

i) One hour, That's not an endurance race !!
How about multiple 1 hour (maybe 30 minute) races or a 2 hour enduro ?

ii) Shortish tracks for small cars, longer tracks for bigger cars

iii) See above
Eg, Start in Mini & Abarth then move on to
Cortina & Alfa GTA,
Ford RS Escort & Capri,
DeTomaso Pantera & Porsche 911

I'd vote for Diver's suggestion of qualifying for race 1 then using reverse grid from previous race finishing order for the subsequent races.

If we did a 1 hour race I reckon we'd have about 3 finishers! Unless I'm doing them in real life (where the incentive of not losing limbs keeps you focused) I get quite distracted about halfway through

Although the 1 hour GTR ones were good (they were 1 hour, right?)

Is the host able to set who goes where on the grid then? I think GTL would be much better for longer races than GTR. For a start the cars are easier to keep on the road and seemingly more durable in a crash (no splitters or wings to fall off I suppose!) Also the tyres seem to last much longer.
How about a 1 hour race with ALL cars available and results grouped by car class. That makes it more fun as those in faster cars will have to negotiate the slower ones, who in turn will have to watch their mirrors!

Had a great race round Donington National, me in a Cortina and other chap in a Mustang - so much fun outbraking them into the chicane!

I'll look into organising a proper server for the event so there is no messing around (any pointers on where to go would be )

looks like the 4 x 30 mins comes out as good comprimise, which cars to use seems quite split, so maybe try and cater for all tastes, with tracks not apearing to be that important (only in relaton to the cars being used) sooooo..... how does this sound

4 x 30 min races:

1 x 30 min @ Monza, Tomatoes / Porkers etc
1 x 30 min @ Spa, Tomatoes porkers etc
1 x 30 min @ ???? (short circuit) Minis / Cortinas etc
1 x 30 min @ Donington mixed cars (would need people to vote on cars before hand so as to even the numbers)

In that order, with winners of last race defining the reverse grid (like that one Diver )

Hows that sound so far.........

how am I doing so far Uncledave
