In the 'olden days' arcade games always looked a generation (or even two, sometimes three) ahead of whatever home computer or console system we had.

What will happen to arcade gaming in the future, when the next gen consoles come out? Im guessing they wont be as far ahead, if ahead at all in some cases

I think they're onto a loser unless they make the arcade experience a lot better than the home one. The whole reason people go to arcades is to play something they cannot buy, and that sense of occasion/anticipation when you sit in a new arcade racer etc..

And the cost of developing the hardware and software is surely not going to add up.

I'll bet the arcades will sport more fruit machines and suchlike, in years to come.

I'd be happy if they were using the same level of graphics, if they increased the quality of the experience. So if you went to go and play That extremely hard ferrari challenge game by sega - i would still enjoy if just as much if they constructed some kind of pod you sat in and was closed off from the noise of the other machines, and made it move about to simulate acceleration (seat tips back), braking (seat dips forward) etc. You can buy kits like that already for pc driving games and they look great - need several grand though !!

I know this has been done before (cant remember where though) - but that would keep me going into the arcades !

Agreed I dont play arcade games much, praps a few times a year or so... but are there any/many arcade machines which even get close to or equal the quality of an Xbox 360 game?

I doubt there are many out there yet...its a matter of time methinks. I'll bet they'll have massive logos saying 'Powered by Xbox 360' or the like..... Either that or they'll stuff Uber PC's in the arcade box and pass it as the next best thing ?

That will be great wont it - blue screen of death after you have fed 5 quid in to continue....

One of our local truck driving machines (last I tried it) steals your wonga, without windows, even.

Next you know, you'll have to pay the MS certified onsite techie to come out and restore the machine you chose

Praps its full moon, but Im pretty excited about the whole next gen revolution stuff (loosely translated as 'sucked in by all the marketing bollx')
